Srinagarind Day was designated on the 18th of July by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in remembrance of his mother, Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother and the Srinagarind Fund was founded to support low-income patients with 2,110,000 THB initial fund from donors in 1997. To harmonize with roles in society, the Faculty of Medicine asked for permission from the late king to add more objectives to the fund. These would cover instruction to medical students, residents training, and research to create new knowledge about Health Sciences that impacts people’s health in a positive way. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has accepted the Srinagarind Fund under Royal Patronage since November 10th, 2008.
In 2017, the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University will present the special TV program “Srinagarind Day” live on The National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (Channel 11). This will take place on Saturday, July 15th at 22.00 – 23.30. It will praise the Princess Mother who is concerned about low-income patients, and raise money for the Srinagarind fund under the Royal Patronage of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
