Fostering Long-Standing Partnership: Visit of Mie University Delegates to Khon Kaen University Faculty of Medicine

 

The Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (KKU) cordially welcomed a delegation from Mie University, Japan, during 16–23 August 2025. The group was led by Assoc. Prof. Shigeyuki Yoshiyama, MD, PhD. from the Department of Gastrointestinal and Pediatric Surgery, Mie University Hospital, accompanied by medical students Ms. Mirai Tsuchida (3rd year), Ms. Hina Sakakibara (2nd year), Ms. Mahiro Sasaki (2nd year), and Ms. Mao Nakagawa (2nd year).

The delegation was received by Assoc. Prof. Pattarapong Makarawate, MD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Asst. Prof. Supawan Laohasiriwong, MD, Assistant Dean for International Relations and Corporate Communication. The courtesy meeting reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the two institutions, underscoring their continuous academic collaboration over the years. It also served as a meaningful platform to reflect upon past achievements while exchanging perspectives and outlining future directions for mutually beneficial cooperation.

 

 

The academic program featured an immersive visit to the Lawa Model at Lawa Village’s Health Promoting Hospital (HPH) to study “Liver Fluke, Cancer, and the Lawa Model,” including demonstrations of community-based prevention strategies, a visit to Banlawa School under the “Liver Fluke–Free School Programme,” and cultural–environmental activities at Lawa Lake to understand local contexts that inform public health action.

 

 

The delegation also visited Samlium Primary Care Unit (SPCU) where Assoc. Prof. Pattapong Kasemsomboon, MD, PhD, Department of Community Medicine, Family Medicine, and Occupational Medicine, delivered a lecture on “Health System, Primary Care, and the Role of Doctors.” This was followed by observations of outpatient services integrating chronic disease management, preventive care, and community-engaged health services. At the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute (CARI), Assoc. Prof. Watcharin Loilome, Director of CARI, presented an overview of research on liver fluke–associated bile duct cancer, early detection, and integrated care; the visit included a hospital and academic facility tour focusing on surgical oncology and clinical management pathways for Cholangiocarcinoma.

 

 

Further activities included a visit to the Department of Traditional Thai Medicine, Khon Kaen Hospital to observe Thai massage, traditional healing practices, and Thai herbal medicine, as well as a field visit to Ubolratana Hospital and the Sustainable Community Development Foundation to learn about community-based healthcare services, sustainable development initiatives, and rural public health strategies.

 

 

This visit truly bridged the classroom with the community. The delegates from Mie University gained insights ranging from in-depth research on liver fluke–related Cholangiocarcinoma to Thailand’s primary care services, traditional medicine, and rural public health strategies. The outcomes are expected to include expanded student exchanges, clinical observerships, and joint research benefiting population health, while further strengthening the image of KKU and Mie University as partners driving community-based health innovation.

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้ให้การต้อนรับคณะผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยมิเอะ ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ระหว่างวันที่ 16–23 สิงหาคม 2568 นำโดย Assoc. Prof. Shigeyuki Yoshiyama ภาควิชาศัลยศาสตร์ทางเดินอาหารและกุมารศัลยกรรม โรงพยาบาลมหาวิทยาลัยมิเอะ พร้อมด้วยนักศึกษาแพทย์ ได้แก่ Ms. Mirai Tsuchida (ชั้นปี 3) Ms. Hina Sakakibara (ชั้นปี 2) Ms. Mahiro Sasaki (ชั้นปี 2) และ Ms. Mao Nakagawa (ชั้นปี 2)

คณะผู้แทนได้รับการต้อนรับโดย รองศาสตราจารย์ นพ. ภัทรพงษ์ มกรเวส คณบดีคณะแพทยศาสตร์ และ ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ พญ. สุภวรรณ เลาหศิริวงศ์ ผู้ช่วยคณบดีฝ่ายวิเทศสัมพันธ์และสื่อสารองค์กร ในการเข้าพบหารือครั้งนี้เป็นการตอกย้ำถึงสายสัมพันธ์อันยาวนานระหว่างทั้งสองสถาบัน อันสะท้อนถึงความร่วมมือทางวิชาการที่ได้ดำเนินมาอย่างต่อเนื่องตลอดหลายปีที่ผ่านมา อีกทั้งยังเป็นเวทีสำคัญในการทบทวนผลการดำเนินงานในอดีต พร้อมทั้งแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองและกำหนดทิศทางความร่วมมือที่จะก่อให้เกิดประโยชน์ร่วมกันในอนาคต

กิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ประกอบด้วยการลงพื้นที่ศึกษารูปแบบ Lawa Model ณ โรงพยาบาลส่งเสริมสุขภาพตำบลบ้านละว้า (รพ.สต.บ้านละว้า) ตำบลเมืองเพีย อำเภอบ้านไผ่ จังหวัดขอนแก่น ในหัวข้อ “พยาธิใบไม้ตับ มะเร็ง และ Lawa Model” ชมการสาธิตมาตรการป้องกันในชุมชน เยี่ยมชม โรงเรียนบ้านละว้า ภายใต้โครงการ “โรงเรียนปลอดพยาธิใบไม้ตับ” และทำกิจกรรมด้านวัฒนธรรมและสิ่งแวดล้อม ณ แก่งละว้า เพื่อทำความเข้าใจสภาพความเป็นอยู่ในชนบทซึ่งเป็นพื้นฐานของการดำเนินงานด้านสาธารณสุข

คณะฯ ยังได้เยี่ยมชม หน่วยบริการปฐมภูมิสามเหลี่ยม โดยมี รองศาสตราจารย์ นายแพทย์ ดร.ปัตพงษ์ เกษสมบูรณ์ สาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์ชุมชน เวชศาสตร์ครอบครัว และอาชีวเวชศาสตร์ เป็นวิทยากรบรรยายในหัวข้อ “ระบบสุขภาพ การแพทย์ปฐมภูมิ และบทบาทแพทย์” จากนั้นได้เยี่ยมชมระบบการให้บริการผู้ป่วยนอกที่บูรณาการการดูแลโรคเรื้อรัง การส่งเสริมป้องกันโรค และการทำงานเชื่อมโยงกับชุมชน ต่อด้วยการรับฟังการบรรยายจาก สถาบันวิจัยมะเร็งท่อน้ำดี (CARI) โดย รศ.ดร.วัชรินทร์ ลอยลม ผู้อำนวยการสถาบันฯ นำเสนอภาพรวมงานวิจัย การคัดกรองระยะแรก และการดูแลแบบบูรณาการ พร้อมเยี่ยมชมเส้นทางการดูแลผู้ป่วยด้านศัลยกรรมมะเร็ง

นอกจากนี้ คณะผู้แทนยังได้เยี่ยมชม กลุ่มงานแพทย์แผนไทยและแพทย์ทางเลือก โรงพยาบาลขอนแก่น เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนเรียนรู้ด้านการนวดไทย การรักษาแบบดั้งเดิม และสมุนไพรไทย รวมถึงลงพื้นที่ โรงพยาบาลอุบลรัตน์ และ ศูนย์ค้ำคูณ เพื่อเรียนรู้บริการสุขภาพฐานชุมชน โครงการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน และยุทธศาสตร์สาธารณสุขชุมชน

การเยือนครั้งนี้เป็นการผสมผสานระหว่าง “ห้องเรียนกับชุมชน” อย่างแท้จริง ผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยมิเอะได้เห็นภาพรวมตั้งแต่งานวิจัยเชิงลึกด้านพยาธิใบไม้ตับ–มะเร็งท่อน้ำดี ไปจนถึงระบบบริการปฐมภูมิ แพทย์แผนไทย และยุทธศาสตร์สาธารณสุขชนบทของไทย ผลที่คาดหวังคือการต่อยอดโครงการแลกเปลี่ยน การสังเกตการณ์ทางคลินิก และความร่วมมือวิจัยที่มีผลต่อสุขภาพประชาชน ทั้งยังเสริมภาพลักษณ์ KKU–Mie University ในฐานะพันธมิตรที่ขับเคลื่อนนวัตกรรมสุขภาพบนฐานชุมชน

 

University of Liverpool Professor Leads Cutting-Edge Research and Strengthens Long-Standing Partnership with MDKKU

 

Khon Kaen, Thailand — Prof. Steven Edwards, Professor of Infection Biology & Microbiomes, Institute of Infection, Veterinary & Ecological Sciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Liverpool, UK, visited the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) from July 15 to 25, 2025 as a Research Visiting Professor. His visit focused on advancing joint research and academic exchange in infectious diseases and tropical medicine.

 

Advanced Research in Infectious Diseases and Immunology

During his visit, Prof. Edwards led multiple research initiatives in partnership with MDKKU colleagues, with a particular focus on infectious diseases and immunological responses in tropical settings. A major collaborative project with Assoc. Prof. Supranee Phanthanawiboon, Department of Microbiology, examined neutrophil gene expression in response to dengue virus stimulation. Using state-of-the-art RNA sequencing and bioinformatics tools, the research aimed to shed light on how innate immune responses were regulated during viral infections—findings that may pave the way for improved diagnostics for dengue and other vector-borne diseases.

In addition, he continued his collaboration with the Department of Tropical Medicine on cholangiocarcinoma, an aggressive form of bile duct cancer prevalent in northeastern Thailand. By investigating the immunological pathways involved in disease progression, the research team hoped to identify potential biomarkers for early detection and novel therapeutic targets.

 

Hands-On Experience for Postgraduate Students

Prof. Edwards brought postgraduate students from the University of Liverpool to participate in laboratory workshops and joint field research within the Microbiology and Tropical Medicine departments. These students gained valuable hands-on experience with tropical pathogens while benefiting from the unique research environment that Khon Kaen offered.

 

Strengthening Collaboration at the Leadership Level

On July 21, 2025, Prof. Edwards and his students met with senior leadership from the Faculty of Medicine, including Assoc. Prof. Pattarapong Makarawate, Dean; Assoc. Prof. Warachaya Phanphruk, Assistant Dean for International Relations and Corporate Communication; Assoc. Prof. Sutas Suttiprapa, Head of the Department of Tropical Medicine; and Assoc. Prof. Supranee Phanthanawiboon, Department of Microbiology. Discussions focused on expanding joint research initiatives, pursuing international grants, and developing deeper academic exchange programs.

 

Mentorship and Capacity Building

Beyond laboratory work, Prof. Edwards provided critical mentorship to local researchers, offering guidance on scientific manuscript preparation and strategies for applying to international research grants. His support was instrumental in increasing the visibility and competitiveness of research outputs from Khon Kaen University on the global stage.

 

A Decade of Collaboration

The partnership between Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University and the University of Liverpool was formally established in 2015, following Prof. Edwards’ first visit in 2014. Over the past decade, the collaboration yielded significant outcomes—including joint research on cholangiocarcinoma, active student mobility programs, and shared funding opportunities. Prof. Edwards remained a cornerstone of this alliance, continually fostering scientific exchange and capacity building between the UK and Thailand.

 

 

 

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มข. จับมือ University of Liverpool ผลักดันงานวิจัยโรคติดเชื้อและเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อนสู่เวทีโลก

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้ให้การต้อนรับ Prof. Steven Edwards, Professor of Infection Biology & Microbiomes, Institute of Infection, Veterinary & Ecological Sciences, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Liverpool, UK ซึ่งได้เดินทางมาเยือนในฐานะ Research Visiting Professor ระหว่างวันที่ 15 – 25 กรกฎาคม 2568 โดยการเยือนครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์สำคัญในการผลักดันความร่วมมือด้านการวิจัยโรคติดเชื้อและเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน ตลอดจนการยกระดับศักยภาพการวิจัยของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นสู่ระดับสากล

ผลักดันงานวิจัยด้านโรคติดเชื้อเขตร้อน

หนึ่งในโครงการวิจัยสำคัญที่ดำเนินการในช่วงการเยือนครั้งนี้ คือความร่วมมือกับ รศ. สุปราณี พันธุ์ธนวิบูลย์สาขาวิชาจุลชีววิทยา โดยมุ่งศึกษาการทำงานของเซลล์นิวโทรฟิลและการแสดงออกของยีนเมื่อถูกกระตุ้นด้วยเชื้อไวรัสเดงกี งานวิจัยนี้ใช้เทคนิค RNA sequencing และ bioinformatics ระดับสูง ซึ่งจะช่วยให้เข้าใจกลไกการตอบสนองของภูมิคุ้มกันต่อโรคติดเชื้อเขตร้อนได้ลึกซึ้งขึ้น ความรู้ที่ได้อาจนำไปสู่การพัฒนาวิธีการตรวจวินิจฉัยที่แม่นยำและมีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้นสำหรับโรคไข้เลือดออกและโรคติดเชื้อจากแมลงพาหะอื่น ๆ

นอกจากนี้ Prof. Steven Edwards ยังได้ต่อยอดความร่วมมือกับ ภาควิชาเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน ในการวิจัยมะเร็งท่อน้ำดี (cholangiocarcinoma) ซึ่งเป็นโรคร้ายแรงที่พบมากในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของไทย โดยทีมวิจัยกำลังมุ่งศึกษากลไกทางภูมิคุ้มกันที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเกิดและการดำเนินโรค เพื่อค้นหาตัวบ่งชี้ทางชีวภาพสำหรับการตรวจพบโรคตั้งแต่ระยะเริ่มแรก ตลอดจนแนวทางการรักษาใหม่ ๆ ที่อาจช่วยเพิ่มโอกาสรอดชีวิตให้ผู้ป่วย

สร้างเวทีเรียนรู้ให้แก่นักศึกษานานาชาติ

Prof. Steven Edwards ยังได้พานักศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษาจาก University of Liverpool มาร่วมทำงานวิจัยภาคสนามและเข้าร่วมเวิร์กช็อปในห้องปฏิบัติการกับนักวิจัยของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ โดยนักศึกษาเหล่านี้ได้เรียนรู้จากสถานการณ์จริงในการทำงานกับเชื้อโรคเขตร้อนและโรคติดเชื้อที่พบได้เฉพาะในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้

เมื่อวันที่ 21 กรกฎาคม 2568 Prof. Steven Edwards กล่าว พร้อมนักศึกษาได้เข้าพบผู้บริหารคณะแพทยศาสตร์ นำโดย รศ. ภัทรพงษ์ มกรเวส คณบดีคณบดีคณะแพทยศาสตร์ พร้อมด้วย รศ. วรัชญา พันธุ์พฤกษ์ ผู้ช่วยคณบดีฝ่ายวิเทศสัมพันธ์และสื่อสารองค์กร, รศ. สุทัศน์ สุทธิประภา หัวหน้าสาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน และ รศ. สุปราณี พันธุ์ธนวิบูลย์สาขาวิชาจุลชีววิทยา การหารือครั้งนี้มุ่งเน้นการขยายความร่วมมือด้านการวิจัย การสมัครทุนวิจัยนานาชาติ และการสร้างโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาและบุคลากรอย่างยั่งยืน

นอกจากบทบาทในการทำวิจัย Prof. Steven Edwards ยังได้จัดกิจกรรมให้คำปรึกษาแก่นักวิจัยและนักศึกษาเกี่ยวกับเทคนิคการเขียนบทความวิชาการเพื่อการตีพิมพ์ในวารสารนานาชาติ รวมถึงแนวทางการสมัครทุนวิจัยจากต่างประเทศ ซึ่งเป็นองค์ความรู้ที่ช่วยเพิ่มขีดความสามารถและความน่าเชื่อถือของผลงานวิจัยจากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นบนเวทีโลก

ความร่วมมือที่ยั่งยืนกว่าทศวรรษ

ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่าง คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น และ University of Liverpool เริ่มต้นขึ้นตั้งแต่ปี 2557 และได้พัฒนาเป็นความร่วมมืออย่างเป็นทางการในปี 2558 ตลอดกว่า 10 ปีที่ผ่านมา ได้ก่อให้เกิดผลงานวิจัยร่วมที่มีคุณค่า ทั้งด้านมะเร็งท่อน้ำดี การแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษา ตลอดจนความสำเร็จในการขอทุนวิจัยนานาชาติ

Khon Kaen University Hosts Japanese Medical Students for Health System Exchange

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) is welcoming a delegation of six medical students from the University of Occupational and Environmental Health (UOEH) in Fukuoka, Japan. The visit is part of the “KKU-UOEH 2025” short-term cultural exchange program, which runs from August 23 to 30, 2025. The program aims to facilitate an exchange of knowledge on public health and educational systems, enhance cultural understanding, and strengthen the relationship between the two universities.

The delegation from Japan consists of Mr. Ryunosuke Tamaki, Ms. Reika Imai, Ms. Tomomi Tamesa, Ms. Rina Takahashi, Ms. Akane Saito, and Ms. Kanako Nakauchi.

Over the eight-day program, the Japanese students are scheduled to visit a variety of medical facilities to learn about Thailand’s public healthcare system. Key academic visits include:

  • Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute (CARI): The students received a presentation on liver fluke-associated bile duct cancer research, early detection, and integrated care, followed by a tour to observe the clinical processes for patient care.
  • Sam Liam Primary Care Unit: A visit to observe the primary healthcare service system within a community setting.
  • Occupational Health Visit: An educational trip to a local factory to understand the practical application of occupational health and safety protocols in an industrial environment.
  • Department of Traditional Thai Medicine: A visit to Khon Kaen Hospital to observe traditional Thai massage and healing practices and to learn about local herbal medicine.

The exchange is considered a significant affirmation of the strong academic cooperation between the two universities. It provides a valuable opportunity for medical students from both institutions to enhance their international communication skills and broaden their perspectives.

Taiwanese Student Completes Medical Internship in Thailand with Inner Ear Model Project

 

An exchange student from Taiwan has concluded her internship at the Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) by presenting her final project: a sophisticated model of the human inner ear’s vestibular system.

Miss Yu-Chen Huang, from National Pingtung University (NPTU), completed her placement at the Department of Medical Illustration as part of an exchange programme that ran from 16 July to 27 August 2025.

A third-year Science Communication student, Miss Huang worked under the supervision of Dr. Kan Komany, a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine. Her primary project was to build a functional model demonstrating the inner ear’s balance system, with the goal of making complex medical knowledge more accessible to the public. She reported facing several technical challenges, including material selection, incorrect mold scaling, and the intricate assembly of small components.

Reflecting on the process, she expressed a great sense of achievement. “Every time I managed to solve a problem, I felt a great sense of accomplishment. It was a fantastic feeling,” Miss Huang said.

Beyond her academic work, Miss Huang shared her positive impressions of the university campus and the warm hospitality she received from Thai faculty and students. She stated that stepping out of her comfort zone to come to Thailand had broadened her horizons and provided significant new inspiration.

นศ. ไต้หวันโชว์ผลงาน “แบบจำลองหูชั้นใน” สุดทึ่ง หลังฝึกงานแลกเปลี่ยน ณ คณะแพทย์ มข. เผยความประทับใจไม่รู้ลืม

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (มข.) จัดแสดงผลงานและสรุปโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาจาก National Pingtung University (NPTU) ไต้หวัน หลัง Miss Yu-Chen Huang สิ้นสุดการฝึกปฏิบัติสหกิจศึกษา ณ สาขาวิชาเวชนิทัศน์ พร้อมนำเสนอผลงาน “แบบจำลองระบบการทรงตัวของหูชั้นใน” (Vestibular system model) ซึ่งเป็นผลลัพธ์จากการเรียนรู้และสร้างสรรค์ตลอดระยะเวลากว่าหนึ่งเดือนที่ผ่านมา

โครงการแลกเปลี่ยนซึ่งจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 16 กรกฎาคม ถึง 27 สิงหาคม 2568 ได้ปิดฉากลงอย่างน่าประทับใจ โดย Miss Huang นักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 3 สาขา Science Communication ได้มารายงานสรุปประสบการณ์ทั้งหมดที่ได้รับจากการทำงานอย่างใกล้ชิดภายใต้การดูแลของ อาจารย์ ดร.แคน กอมณี อาจารย์ผู้ดูแลจากสาขาเวชนิทัศน์ คณะแพทยศาสตร์

Miss Huang กล่าวว่า โครงการหลักของเธอคือการสร้างแบบจำลองที่สามารถสาธิตการทำงานของระบบการทรงตัวในหูชั้นใน เพื่อทำให้ความรู้ทางการแพทย์ที่ซับซ้อนกลายเป็นเรื่องที่เข้าใจง่าย ตลอดการทำงาน เธอต้องเผชิญกับความท้าทายหลายด้าน ทั้งการเลือกใช้วัสดุ การคำนวณสเกลแม่พิมพ์ที่ผิดพลาด ไปจนถึงการติดตั้งชิ้นส่วนขนาดเล็กที่มีความซับซ้อน

“ทุกครั้งที่ฉันสามารถแก้ปัญหาได้สำเร็จ ฉันรู้สึกถึงความสำเร็จที่ยิ่งใหญ่ มันเป็นความรู้สึกที่ยอดเยี่ยมมาก” Miss Huang กล่าวพร้อมรอยยิ้ม

นอกเหนือจากความสำเร็จด้านวิชาการแล้ว Miss Huang ยังได้แบ่งปันความประทับใจต่อชีวิตในรั้วมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นและมิตรภาพอันอบอุ่นที่ได้รับจากคณาจารย์และเพื่อนนักศึกษาชาวไทย เธอกล่าวว่า การได้ก้าวออกจากคอมฟอร์ทโซนมายังประเทศไทยในครั้งนี้ ช่วยเปิดโลกทัศน์และสร้างแรงบันดาลใจใหม่ๆ ให้กับเธออย่างมหาศาล

Khon Kaen University Hosts Taiwan Medical Students in Medical and Research Exchange

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) has successfully organised the Thai–Taiwan Medical Student Exchange Programme 2025 (AMSEP 2025). The programme hosted students from Tzu Chi University and China Medical University from Taiwan. Its goal is to foster cooperation in medical education within the region and provide students with a deeper medical and research experience.

 

 

 

Throughout the programme, the students received a wide range of medical and research experiences. These included:

  • Clinical Observation: Students visited the Palliative Care Centre at Srinagarind Hospital, providing an opportunity to learn about a holistic approach to patient care. They also visited Ubolratana Hospital to study the Home Ward project.
  • Practical Laboratory Training: They honed essential clinical skills in the Skill Lab, and studied parasites in the parasitology laboratory, an experience that is rare in their home country.
  • Research Exposure: Students attended a lecture and presentation at the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Center (CASCAP), a leading global centre for studying this type of cancer.
  • Community and Field Experience: They learned about the lifestyle of the community in Lawa village and observed a demonstration on liver fluke control, a significant health issue in Northeast Thailand.

In addition to their academic activities, the students were immersed in Thai culture through various activities, such as sightseeing in Khon Kaen and learning about traditional Thai arts and performances.

This AMSEP 2025 programme is designed to be more than just a student exchange; it is a platform that inspires and provides diverse knowledge to a new generation of physicians, preparing them to become competent international medical professionals.

ม.ขอนแก่น เปิดโครงการ AMSEP 2025 แลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาแพทย์ไทย-ไต้หวัน สู่การเรียนรู้เชิงลึกด้านการแพทย์และวิจัย

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้จัดโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาแพทย์ไทย-ไต้หวัน ประจำปี 2568 (Asian Medical Student Exchange Programme: AMSEP 2025) โดยต้อนรับนักศึกษาจาก Tzu Chi University และ China Medical University จากประเทศไต้หวัน โครงการนี้มีเป้าหมายเพื่อส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านการศึกษาแพทย์ในภูมิภาค และเปิดโอกาสให้นักศึกษาได้แลกเปลี่ยนความรู้และประสบการณ์ทางการแพทย์ในระดับที่ลึกซึ้งยิ่งขึ้น

ตลอดระยะเวลาโครงการ นักศึกษาแพทย์ไต้หวันจะได้รับประสบการณ์ด้านการแพทย์และการวิจัยที่หลากหลายดังนี้:

  • การศึกษาดูงานในคลินิกเฉพาะทาง: นักศึกษาได้เข้าชมศูนย์ดูแลผู้ป่วยระยะสุดท้าย (Palliative Care) ที่โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ (Srinagarind Hospital) ซึ่งเป็นโอกาสในการเรียนรู้แนวทางการดูแลผู้ป่วยแบบองค์รวม

  • การลงพื้นที่ชุมชนและโรงพยาบาลในพื้นที่: เยี่ยมชมโรงพยาบาลอุบลรัตน์ เพื่อศึกษาโครงการ Home Ward และเรียนรู้วิถีชีวิตของชุมชนในพื้นที่แก่งละว้า (Lawa village) พร้อมทั้งรับฟังการสาธิตการควบคุมโรคพยาธิใบไม้ตับ ซึ่งเป็นโรคที่สำคัญในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของไทย

นอกจากด้านวิชาการแล้ว นักศึกษายังได้สัมผัสกับวัฒนธรรมไทยผ่านกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ เช่น การท่องเที่ยวเชิงธรรมชาติและประวัติศาสตร์ในจังหวัดขอนแก่น และการเรียนรู้การละเล่นและศิลปะแบบดั้งเดิมของไทย ซึ่งช่วยเติมเต็มประสบการณ์ให้สมบูรณ์ยิ่งขึ้น

โครงการ AMSEP 2025 นี้จึงเป็นมากกว่าการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษา แต่เป็นเวทีที่สร้างแรงบันดาลใจและมอบองค์ความรู้ที่หลากหลายให้กับแพทย์รุ่นใหม่ เพื่อเตรียมความพร้อมในการเป็นบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ที่มีศักยภาพในระดับนานาชาติต่อไป

 

KKU Academy and University of Health Sciences of Lao PDR Partner to Host “Medical Education Workshop”

 

Vientiane, Lao PDR – On August 6-7, 2025, KKU Academy and the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University in collaboration with the University of Health Sciences of Lao PDR (UHS-Laos) hosted a “Medical Education Workshop: Connecting Greater Mekong Subregion-GMS.” at the University of Health Sciences of Lao PDR (UHS-Laos). This event is a kick-off educational program initiated by KKU Academy to share the expertise of Khon Kaen University with the neighbor countries across the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

 

 

This was a key collaboration in Medical Education, led by Assoc. Prof. Patravoot Vatanasapt, MD, PhD, Director of KKU Academy, and Assoc. Prof. Alongkone Phengsavanh, MD, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Health Sciences, Laos PDR. The workshop featured a team of speakers from the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University: Assoc. Prof. Rosawan Areemit, MD, MMSc (Med Ed), Assoc. Prof. Warachaya Phanphruk, MD, MMSc (Med Ed), and Asst. Prof. Atipong Pathanasetthpong, MD, MMSc (Med Ed). It was successfully carried out with the active participation of teaching staff from UHS, supporting their efforts to advance the transformation of medical education in Laos.

Prior to the workshop, on August 4-5, 2025, the faculty team from Khon Kaen University visited Luang Prabang Provincial Hospital. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for collaboration in medical education and healthcare systems, as well as to exchange knowledge and experiences for mutual benefit.

 

 

This academic collaboration is not only an exchange of knowledge and experience but also a crucial step in building and strengthening the medical education network in the GMS. It is expected to lead to the elevation of educational standards, the production of high-quality medical professionals, and the collaborative development of public health across the region in the future.

ในช่วงวันที่ 4-5 สิงหาคม 2568 ก่อนการจัดประชุมเชิงปฏิบัติการ ทางคณะจากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นได้เดินทางไปเยี่ยมชมและหารือความร่วมมือกับโรงพยาบาลแขวงหลวงพระบาง (Luang Prabang Provincial Hospital) เพื่อพัฒนาความร่วมมือด้านแพทยศาสตร์ศึกษาและระบบการแพทย์ รวมถึงการแลกเปลี่ยนองค์ความรู้และประสบการณ์ที่เป็นประโยชน์ร่วมกัน

ความร่วมมือทางวิชาการในครั้งนี้ไม่เพียงแต่เป็นการแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้และประสบการณ์ แต่ยังเป็นก้าวสำคัญในการสร้างและเสริมสร้างเครือข่ายความร่วมมือด้านแพทยศาสตร์ศึกษาในอนุภูมิภาคลุ่มแม่น้ำโขง ซึ่งจะนำไปสู่การยกระดับมาตรฐานการศึกษา การผลิตบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ที่มีคุณภาพ และการพัฒนาด้านสาธารณสุขของประชาชนในภูมิภาคนี้ร่วมกันในอนาคต

 

NUS Student Concludes 12-Week Tropical Disease Research Internship at Khon Kaen University

 

The Khon Kaen Tropical Disease Research Center (TDRC) at Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine has successfully concluded its internship programme for international students. Miss Liew Wei Qing, a second-year undergraduate in Life Sciences from the National University of Singapore (NUS), has completed her 12-week research and fieldwork experience.

Miss Liew’s research focused on projects related to liver fluke and associated diseases, forming part of her undergraduate thesis. Throughout her internship, she gained comprehensive experience in both laboratory and community-based fieldwork, providing a holistic view of the research process.

In the laboratory, Miss Liew learned practical skills such as identifying the eggs of Opisthorchis viverrini and Diphyllobothrium latum from stool samples. She also gained proficiency in using the statistical software Stata for clinical data analysis. Under close supervision, she undertook a project involving bacterial gene transfer, PCR, SDS-PAGE, and Western blot techniques.

Her fieldwork involved visiting Chi-Kor village, where she observed discussions on community economic development projects with local farmers and fishermen. This experience highlighted the importance of participatory research in improving the livelihoods of local people.

Miss Liew remarked that the internship not only enhanced her technical skills but also developed her interpersonal and cultural adaptability, as well as her confidence. She concluded that the experience reinforced her belief that science is not merely about data and diagnosis, but is a human-centred endeavour rooted in empathy and collaboration.

The TDRC views this internship as a significant step in cultivating new generations of medical professionals and researchers with the potential to address public health challenges in the region sustainably.

 

 

 

ม.ขอนแก่น สร้างนักวิจัยรุ่นใหม่จากสิงคโปร์ สานต่อภารกิจวิจัยโรคเขตร้อน

ศูนย์วิจัยโรคเขตร้อน (Khon Kaen Tropical Disease Research Center: TDRC) คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้จัดโครงการฝึกงานสำหรับนักศึกษาต่างชาติและประสบความสำเร็จอย่างงดงาม โดยล่าสุด Miss Liew Wei Qing นักศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีชั้นปีที่ 2 สาขาวิทยาศาสตร์ชีวภาพจาก National University of Singapore (NUS) ได้เสร็จสิ้นการฝึกงานระยะเวลา 12 สัปดาห์ ณ ศูนย์วิจัยโรคเขตร้อน

Miss Liew Wei Qing ได้เข้าร่วมโครงการวิจัยในหัวข้อที่เกี่ยวข้องกับพยาธิใบไม้ตับและโรคที่เกี่ยวข้อง ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของการทำวิจัยสำหรับปริญญาตรีของเธอ ตลอดระยะเวลาการฝึกงาน Wei Qing ได้สัมผัสประสบการณ์ที่หลากหลาย ทั้งงานในห้องปฏิบัติการและงานภาคสนามในชุมชน ทำให้เธอได้เห็นภาพการวิจัยที่สมบูรณ์แบบ

ในส่วนของงานห้องปฏิบัติการ เธอได้เรียนรู้และฝึกปฏิบัติในการตรวจหาไข่พยาธิใบไม้ตับ (Opisthorchis viverrini) และพยาธิตัวตืด (Diphyllobothrium latum) จากตัวอย่างอุจจาระ นอกจากนี้ยังได้เรียนรู้การใช้โปรแกรมทางสถิติ Stata เพื่อวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลทางคลินิก และยังได้ทำโปรเจกต์เกี่ยวกับการเปลี่ยนถ่ายยีนแบคทีเรีย, โครโมโซม PCR, SDS-PAGE และ Western blot ภายใต้การดูแลของนักวิจัยอย่างใกล้ชิด

นอกเหนือจากงานในห้องปฏิบัติการ Wei Qing ยังได้มีโอกาสลงพื้นที่ภาคสนามที่หมู่บ้านจิกก่อ ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจชุมชน โดยได้สังเกตการณ์การพูดคุยกับชาวนาและชาวประมงในพื้นที่ ทำให้เธอได้เห็นความสำคัญของการวิจัยที่เน้นการมีส่วนร่วมของชุมชนเพื่อยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตของคนในท้องถิ่น

Wei Qing สรุปว่าประสบการณ์ครั้งนี้ทำให้เธอได้พัฒนาทักษะหลายด้าน ไม่เพียงแค่ทักษะทางเทคนิคในห้องปฏิบัติการ แต่ยังรวมถึงทักษะด้านมนุษยสัมพันธ์ การปรับตัวเข้ากับสภาพแวดล้อมใหม่ และการสร้างมิตรภาพกับเพื่อนร่วมโครงการจากทั่วโลก ประสบการณ์นี้ได้ตอกย้ำให้เธอเห็นว่าวิทยาศาสตร์ไม่ใช่แค่เรื่องของข้อมูลและการวินิจฉัย แต่เป็นภารกิจที่มีมนุษย์เป็นศูนย์กลาง ซึ่งต้องอาศัยความเห็นอกเห็นใจและความร่วมมือ

โครงการฝึกงานนี้นับเป็นอีกหนึ่งก้าวสำคัญของศูนย์วิจัยโรคเขตร้อนในการสร้างบุคลากรทางการแพทย์และนักวิจัยรุ่นใหม่ที่มีศักยภาพระดับสากล เพื่อร่วมกันแก้ไขปัญหาสุขภาพในภูมิภาคได้อย่างยั่งยืนในอนาคต

 

Scientist Invitation Program 2025 to Korea (SIP2025)

 

Associate Professor Dr. Chadamas Sakonsinsiri, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, represented Thailand in the Life Sciences field at the Scientist Invitation Program 2025 (SIP2025), held in Seoul, South Korea, from July 14-25, 2025. Organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea and INITHiNK, the program brought together scientists from APEC member economies to strengthen trainee capabilities through specialized training, expand research networks, and foster international collaboration.

 

 

Associate Professor Dr.  Chadamas participated alongside two other Thai delegates, Dr. Pummarin Khamdahsag (Chulalongkorn University) and Associate Professor Dr. Chatchawan Jantasuriyarat (Kasetsart University), as well as participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Peru, and the Philippines. Together, they engaged in lectures, laboratory visits, and networking activities that laid a strong foundation for future collaborative research.

รศ.ดร. ชฎามาศ เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมพร้อมนักวิจัยไทยอีก 2 ท่าน ได้แก่ ดร. ภุมรินทร์ คำเดชศักดิ์ (จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย) และ รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร. ชัชวาล จันทราสุริยารัตน์ (มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์) รวมทั้งผู้เข้าร่วมจากมาเลเซีย อินโดนีเซีย เปรู และฟิลิปปินส์ โดยร่วมฟังสัมมนา เยี่ยมชมห้องปฏิบัติการ และสร้างเครือข่ายวิจัย ซึ่งเป็นรากฐานสำคัญสำหรับความร่วมมือและการทำวิจัยร่วมในอนาคต

 

Khon Kaen University Welcomes Medical Students from Wright State University, Fostering Global Healthcare Collaboration

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) recently hosted a delegation of physician and undergraduate (pre-med) students from Wright State University, USA. Led by Dr. Jon Lu, the group undertook a clinical observation programme at Srinagarind Hospital, focusing on various medical specialties.

The 11 students participating in the programme were: Mr. Ganon Ison, Mr. Michael Lipscomb, Mr. Justin Koehler, Miss Hali Csoltko, Miss Ny’Tasja Bernard, Miss Izabella Bell, Miss Olivia Brown, Miss Reece Barnitz, Miss Mary Ellen Tokodi-Ruth, Miss Shukuru Gerardine, and Miss Meggy Diombera.

  • The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute (CARI): Associate Professor Dr. Watcharin Loilome, the institute’s director, provided an overview of the center’s world-leading research on bile duct cancer, a significant health issue in Northeast Thailand.
  • Surgery: Assistant Professor Dr. Atthapol Titapun, head of the Centre of Excellence for Cholangiocarcinoma, guided the students through the cancer ward and operating rooms.
  • Community Medicine: Dr. Saowanan Bumrerraj, head of the department, lectured and led a tour of the local primary care unit, highlighting its role in community health.
  • Emergency Medicine: Associate Professor Korakot Apiratwarakul and Associate Professor Kamonwon Ienghong provided insights into the operations of the emergency medical team and patient management, including the critical patient referral system.
  • Pharmacy: Assistant Professor Dr. Atcharawan Topak-ngam of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences lectured on the hospital’s pharmacy management system.

The visit served as a vital platform for medical knowledge exchange and strengthened the relationship between the two academic institutions.

 

 

 

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ ม.ขอนแก่น ต้อนรับแพทย์และนักศึกษาจากสหรัฐฯ เปิดโลกการแพทย์ไทยสู่สากล

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เปิดบ้านต้อนรับแพทย์และนักศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรี (Pre-Med) จาก Wright State University สหรัฐอเมริกา นำโดย Dr. Jon Lu เพื่อศึกษาดูงานด้านการแพทย์

นักศึกษาทั้ง 11 คนที่เข้าร่วมโครงการนี้ได้แก่ Mr. Ganon Ison, Mr. Michael Lipscomb, Mr. Justin Koehler, Miss Hali Csoltko, Miss Ny’Tasja Bernard, Miss Izabella Bell, Miss Olivia Brown, Miss Reece Barnitz, Miss Mary Ellen Tokodi-Ruth, Miss Shukuru Gerardine และ Miss Meggy Diombera

ตลอดระยะเวลาการศึกษาดูงาน Dr. Jon Lu และนักศึกษาได้เข้าเยี่ยมชมและเรียนรู้ระบบการทำงานของโรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ โดยมีคณาจารย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญร่วมบรรยายและนำชมในแต่ละสาขาวิชา:

สถาบันวิจัยมะเร็งท่อน้ำดี (CARI) โดย รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร. วัชรินทร์ ลอยลม ผู้อำนวยการสถาบันฯ ได้นำเสนอภาพรวมของศูนย์วิจัยที่มุ่งเน้นการศึกษาโรคมะเร็งท่อน้ำดีในภาคอีสานของไทย ซึ่งเป็นปัญหาสำคัญที่ CARI ดำเนินการการตรวจคัดกรองและพัฒนาแนวทางแก้ไขปัญหาอย่างยั่งยืน

สาขาวิชาศัลยศาสตร์ นำโดย ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ นายแพทย์อรรถพล ติตะปัญ หัวหน้าศูนย์ความเป็นเลิศด้านมะเร็งท่อน้ำดี ได้นำนักศึกษาศึกษาดูงานในหอผู้ป่วยมะเร็งท่อน้ำดี และห้องผ่าตัด

สาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์ชุมชน เวชศาสตร์ครอบครัว และอาชีวเวชศาสตร์ ดร.พญ.เสาวนันท์ บำเรอราช หัวหน้าสาขาวิชาฯ ได้บรรยายและนำคณะเยี่ยมชมระบบการดูแลสุขภาพในระดับหน่วยบริการปฐมภูมิ

สาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์ฉุกเฉิน รองศาสตราจารย์ กรกฏ อภิรัตน์วรากุล และ รองศาสตราจารย์ กมลวรรณ เอี้ยงฮง ได้ให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับการทำงานของทีมแพทย์ฉุกเฉินและการบริหารจัดการผู้ป่วยในภาวะวิกฤต ซึ่งโรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์มีแนวปฏิบัติการส่งต่อผู้ป่วยฉุกเฉิน

ฝ่ายเภสัชกรรม ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อัจฉราวรรณ โตภาคงาม อาจารย์ประจำสาขาวิชาเภสัชกรรมคลินิก คณะเภสัชศาสตร์ ได้บรรยายและนำชมระบบการบริหารจัดการยาในโรงพยาบาล

 

Khon Kaen University and Lao PDR Strengthen Medical Collaboration, Nurturing a New Generation of Healthcare Professionals

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) has successfully continued its Residency Partnership Program with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Health Sciences, Lao PDR. The program, which was initiated in 2003, recently welcomed 13 third-year resident physicians from Lao PDR for training in the Department of Internal Medicine from July 1 to August 31, 2025.

The 13 resident doctors from Lao PDR were: Dr. Sayaphet Rattanavong, Dr. Somboun Phommata, Dr. Bounmy Thepkaisone, Dr. Vannaly Lidsavanhno, Dr. Viengphone Sodahuk, Dr. Linda Souksavath, Dr. Sisouvan Herxaycha, Dr. Kenglor Xiaying, Dr. Noutta Sounthala, Dr. Solaya Mekmaysy, Dr. Lattanaphone Phonevilay, Dr. Sengdaokham Keomanyvong, and Dr. Latsamy Phongphan.

 

 

The program’s objective is to develop the skills of medical personnel in Lao PDR, and the clinical rotation at the KKU Faculty of Medicine is a key requirement of their residency curriculum. A survey of past participants revealed that they were having improved their knowledge in patient care and learned about rare diseases not found in Laos. They also gained experience with modern medical technology and equipment.

During the training, the 13 Lao physicians had the opportunity to practice in various sub-specialties of internal medicine, including General Medicine, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Pneumology, Critical care, Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Infectious disease, Hematology, Oncology, and Nephrology. They also participated in academic activities with Thai residents, which helped them gain additional knowledge and confidence for their future practice in Lao PDR.

This training not only elevates the competency of Lao medical personnel but also reinforces the strong academic collaboration between the two nations. It contributes to the sustainable development of healthcare quality for the people of the region.

 

 

 

ม.ขอนแก่น และ สปป.ลาว สานต่อความร่วมมือด้านการแพทย์ เสริมแกร่งบุคลากรรุ่นใหม่

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ประสบความสำเร็จในการสานต่อโครงการ Residency Partnership Program ซึ่งเป็นโครงการความร่วมมือกับคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยวิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพ (University of Health Sciences) สปป.ลาว ที่ริเริ่มมาตั้งแต่ปี 2003 โดยล่าสุดได้ต้อนรับแพทย์ประจำบ้านชั้นปีที่ 3 จำนวน 13 คน จาก สปป.ลาว เพื่อเข้ารับการฝึกอบรมในภาควิชาอายุรศาสตร์ ระหว่างวันที่ 1 กรกฎาคม – 31 สิงหาคม 2568

โครงการนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อพัฒนาศักยภาพของบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ใน สปป.ลาว ซึ่งการหมุนเวียนฝึกปฏิบัติงาน (Clinical Rotation) ที่คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ถือเป็นหนึ่งในข้อกำหนดที่สำคัญของหลักสูตรแพทย์ประจำบ้าน การสำรวจความเห็นจากแพทย์ลาวที่เคยเข้าร่วมโครงการพบว่า พวกเขาได้รับประโยชน์อย่างมากจากการฝึกอบรม โดยสามารถพัฒนาความรู้ในการดูแลรักษาผู้ป่วย และได้เรียนรู้กรณีโรคที่หาได้ยากในประเทศลาว รวมถึงการใช้เทคโนโลยีและอุปกรณ์ทางการแพทย์ที่ทันสมัย

ในระหว่างการฝึกอบรม แพทย์ลาวทั้ง 13 คน มีโอกาสได้ฝึกปฏิบัติงานในหลากหลายสาขาวิชาของอายุรศาสตร์ ได้แก่ อายุรกรรมทั่วไป, โรคหัวใจ, ต่อมไร้ท่อ, โรคปอด, ผู้ป่วยหนักวิกฤต, โรคข้อและรูมาติสซั่ม, ทางเดินอาหาร, โรคติดเชื้อ, โลหิตวิทยา, มะเร็งวิทยา และโรคไต

นอกจากนี้ แพทย์ประจำบ้านลาวยังได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมทางวิชาการร่วมกับแพทย์ประจำบ้านของไทย ซึ่งช่วยให้พวกเขาได้รับความรู้เพิ่มเติมและเกิดความมั่นใจในการนำความรู้กลับไปใช้ในการปฏิบัติงานจริงที่ สปป.ลาว การฝึกอบรมในครั้งนี้ไม่เพียงแต่ช่วยยกระดับความสามารถของบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ลาว แต่ยังเป็นการตอกย้ำความสัมพันธ์อันดีและส่งเสริมความร่วมมือทางวิชาการระหว่างสองประเทศ เพื่อร่วมกันพัฒนาคุณภาพการดูแลสุขภาพของประชาชนในภูมิภาคให้ดียิ่งขึ้นอย่างยั่งยืนต่อไป
