Entering Its Second Decade: MDKKU and the University of Liverpool Expand a Decade of Collaboration in Tropical Medicine, Research and Medical Education

The Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (MDKKU), and the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, are expanding a partnership that has spanned more than a decade, with renewed plans to strengthen collaboration in tropical medicine, infectious disease research, medical education, and international student mobility.

 

 

Professor Steven Edwards, Professor of Infection Biology & Microbiomes at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, held discussions with Associate Professor Pattarapong Makarawate, M.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, on the next phase of collaboration between the two institutions. The discussion was attended by Associate Professor Sutas Suttiprapa, Head of the Department of Tropical Medicine, together with faculty members from the Departments of Tropical Medicine, Microbiology, and Parasitology.

Professor Edwards also introduced twelve medical students from the University of Liverpool who are currently undertaking an international internship at MDKKU. During their placement, the students are receiving laboratory-based training and research experience within the Departments of Tropical Medicine, Microbiology, and Parasitology, working alongside MDKKU researchers on tropical diseases, infectious diseases, microbiology, parasitology, and global health.

The discussions reviewed ongoing collaborative research, international student and faculty exchanges, and opportunities to develop new joint research projects and academic initiatives that build upon the long-standing partnership between the two institutions.

Professor Steven Edwards has played a key role in developing academic collaboration between the University of Liverpool and MDKKU since his first visit to Khon Kaen University in 2014. The partnership was formally established in 2015 and has since expanded to include student internships, laboratory research training, faculty exchange, collaborative research, and international research funding.

Over the past decade, the collaboration has supported undergraduate and postgraduate education, strengthened research in tropical medicine, microbiology, parasitology, infectious diseases, and cholangiocarcinoma, and created opportunities for researchers, faculty members, and students from both institutions to work together. Today, the University of Liverpool continues to select MDKKU as one of its academic partners in Thailand for international research training and student internships, reflecting the Faculty’s internationally recognized expertise in tropical medicine and infectious disease research.

ความร่วมมือระหว่างคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น และ University of Liverpool สหราชอาณาจักร ซึ่งดำเนินมาอย่างต่อเนื่องมากกว่าทศวรรษ ยังคงขยายตัวอย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยล่าสุด Professor Steven Edwards ศาสตราจารย์ด้าน Infection Biology & Microbiomes จาก University of Liverpool เดินทางเยือนคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เพื่อหารือแนวทางการต่อยอดความร่วมมือด้านการวิจัย การแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษา และการพัฒนากิจกรรมทางวิชาการระหว่างสองสถาบัน

ในการเยือนครั้งนี้ Professor Steven Edwards ได้นำนักศึกษาแพทย์จาก University of Liverpool จำนวน 12 คน ซึ่งอยู่ระหว่างการฝึกประสบการณ์และทำวิจัย ณ คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เข้าพบ รองศาสตราจารย์ นายแพทย์ภัทรพงศ์ มกรเวท คณบดีคณะแพทยศาสตร์ โดยมี รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.สุทัศน์ สุทธิประภา หัวหน้าสาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน พร้อมด้วยคณาจารย์จากสาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน จุลชีววิทยา และปรสิตวิทยา เข้าร่วมแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็น

ทั้งสองฝ่ายได้หารือถึงความก้าวหน้าของความร่วมมือที่ดำเนินร่วมกันมาตลอดกว่า 10 ปี พร้อมแลกเปลี่ยนแนวทางในการพัฒนาโครงการวิจัยร่วม การเพิ่มโอกาสการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาและคณาจารย์ ตลอดจนการสร้างความร่วมมือด้านทุนวิจัยระหว่างประเทศ โดยเฉพาะในสาขาเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน โรคติดเชื้อ จุลชีววิทยา และปรสิตวิทยา ซึ่งเป็นจุดแข็งของทั้งสองสถาบัน

นักศึกษาแพทย์จาก University of Liverpool ทั้ง 12 คน กำลังปฏิบัติงานวิจัยและฝึกประสบการณ์ในห้องปฏิบัติการของสาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน จุลชีววิทยา และปรสิตวิทยา ร่วมกับคณาจารย์และนักวิจัยของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เพื่อศึกษาประเด็นด้านโรคเขตร้อน โรคติดเชื้อ จุลชีววิทยา ปรสิตวิทยา และสุขภาพโลก ซึ่งเป็นปัญหาสำคัญด้านสาธารณสุขของภูมิภาคและของโลก

Professor Steven Edwards เป็นหนึ่งในผู้มีบทบาทสำคัญในการผลักดันความร่วมมือระหว่าง University of Liverpool และคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น นับตั้งแต่เริ่มต้นความร่วมมือในปี พ.ศ. 2557 ก่อนที่ทั้งสองสถาบันจะลงนามความร่วมมืออย่างเป็นทางการในปี พ.ศ. 2558 ตลอดระยะเวลาที่ผ่านมา ความร่วมมือได้ขยายจากการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาไปสู่การฝึกวิจัยในห้องปฏิบัติการ การแลกเปลี่ยนคณาจารย์ การพัฒนานักวิจัยรุ่นใหม่ และการดำเนินโครงการวิจัยร่วมระหว่างประเทศไทยและสหราชอาณาจักร

ตลอดเวลากว่าสิบปีที่ผ่านมา University of Liverpool ยังคงส่งนักศึกษาและนักวิจัยมายังคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นอย่างต่อเนื่อง เพื่อฝึกประสบการณ์และทำวิจัยในสาขาเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อน โรคติดเชื้อ จุลชีววิทยา ปรสิตวิทยา และมะเร็งท่อน้ำดี ซึ่งเป็นสาขาที่คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น มีผลงานวิจัยและความเชี่ยวชาญเป็นที่ยอมรับในระดับนานาชาติ ความร่วมมือดังกล่าวยังนำไปสู่การพัฒนาบุคลากร การตีพิมพ์ผลงานวิจัย และการดำเนินโครงการวิจัยร่วมที่ได้รับการสนับสนุนจากแหล่งทุนวิจัยนานาชาติอย่างต่อเนื่อง

ปัจจุบัน ความร่วมมือระหว่างคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น และ University of Liverpool ได้ก้าวเข้าสู่ทศวรรษที่สอง โดยทั้งสองสถาบันยังคงร่วมกันพัฒนาความร่วมมือด้านการศึกษา การวิจัย และการแลกเปลี่ยนบุคลากรทางวิชาการ เพื่อสร้างองค์ความรู้และพัฒนาศักยภาพด้านเวชศาสตร์เขตร้อนและโรคติดเชื้อร่วมกันในระยะยาว

 

MDKKU Strengthens Global Nursing Partnerships: Welcoming Scholars from Youjiang Medical University, China

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) continues to fortify its international academic network, recently hosting a delegation of eight nursing students from Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities, China. The students—Ms. He Dongting, Ms. Zhang Shunrou, Ms. Ling Ying, Ms. Huang Yu, Ms. Lu Ran, Ms. Zie Yushan, Ms. Zhang Yan, and Ms. Bu Ruonan—participated in a specialized nursing observation and sociocultural exchange program held from July 6 to July 18, 2026.

This initiative aligns with MDKKU’s “Internationalization Transformation” strategy, aimed at fostering sustainable academic and cultural ties with partner institutions worldwide. Throughout their visit, the delegation gained intensive, first-hand experience in the advanced tertiary-level nursing workflows at Srinagarind Hospital.

 

 

The program provided the Chinese scholars with deep insights into MDKKU’s critical care and emergency management systems:

  • Critical Care Nursing: The students engaged in supervised observations within the Medical Intensive Care Unit 2 (MICU2), as well as Surgical Intensive Care Units 1 and 3 (SICU1 and SICU3), gaining exposure to high-acuity patient management.
  • Intermediate Care Nursing: The delegation examined integrated care processes for patients in the Medical Intermediate Care Unit 4B (IMC 4B).
  • Emergency Medicine and Triage: The students studied real-world emergency triage protocols and the management of critical patients within the Accident and Emergency Department (AE1).

This exchange serves as a vital bridge for sharing nursing innovations and public health best practices between Thailand and China. By observing professional clinical standards in a high-level tertiary hospital, the students have not only refined their clinical reasoning but also strengthened the long-term collaborative relationship between MDKKU and Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities, fostering a global community dedicated to excellence in patient care.

  • ระบบการพยาบาลผู้ป่วยวิกฤต: ศึกษาแนวปฏิบัติ ณ หออภิบาลผู้ป่วยอายุรกรรม 2 (MICU2) รวมถึงหออภิบาลผู้ป่วยศัลยกรรม 1 (SICU1) และ 3 (SICU3)
  • ระบบการพยาบาลผู้ป่วยกึ่งวิกฤต: สังเกตการณ์กระบวนการดูแลผู้ป่วย ณ หอผู้ป่วยกึ่งวิกฤตอายุรกรรม 4ข (IMC 4B)

MDKKU Strengthens International Partnership: Welcoming Physical Therapy Scholars from Japan’s Fujita Health University

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) continues to expand its global academic footprint as part of its “Internationalization Transformation” strategy. The institution recently welcomed a delegation of four fourth-year physical therapy students from the School of Health Sciences at Fujita Health University, Japan, for an intensive clinical observation program held from July 5 to July 18, 2026.

 

 

The visiting delegation includes Ms. Ayuko Otake, Ms. Yukari Kimata, Ms. Mao Yamamoto, and Mr. Ryota Nii. This visit provides the scholars with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the advanced tertiary-level clinical management and integrated physical therapy services characteristic of MDKKU’s medical ecosystem.

Throughout their rotation, the students have been immersed in specialized medical units, with clinical faculty providing expert supervision:

July 7, 2026: The students engaged in intensive observations at the Neurological Physical Therapy Unit’s Pediatric Clinic, followed by an overview of operational workflows within the Occupational Therapy Unit at Srinagarind Hospital. During the afternoon, they transitioned to the Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast to study specialized cardiac and vascular rehabilitation physical therapy.

July 8, 2026: The delegation focused on outpatient clinical management, observing screening processes and frontline patient care delivery at the Physical Therapy Outpatient Department (OPD-PT) of Srinagarind Hospital.

This clinical exchange serves as a vital bridge between MDKKU and its Japanese academic partners. Beyond the development of professional skills, the program fosters intercultural cooperation and reinforces international confidence in the high standards of MDKKU’s integrated physical therapy and rehabilitation services.

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (MDKKU) เดินหน้าสร้างเครือข่ายความร่วมมือระดับสากล เปิดบ้านต้อนรับคณะนักศึกษาแลกเปลี่ยนสาขากายภาพบำบัด (Physical Therapy) ชั้นปีที่ 4 จำนวน 4 ท่าน จาก School of Health Sciences, Fujita Health University ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ในโอกาสเดินทางมาเข้าโปรแกรมสังเกตการณ์ชั้นคลินิกเชิงลึก ณ โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ และศูนย์หัวใจสิริกิติ์ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ระหว่างวันที่ 5 – 18 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2569

วันที่ 8 กรกฎาคม 2569: ศึกษาดูงานระบบคัดกรองและการจัดการบริบาลผู้ป่วยนอก ณ ห้องตรวจผู้ป่วยนอก (OPD-PT) หน่วยกายภาพบำบัด โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์

โครงการแลกเปลี่ยนในครั้งนี้ ไม่เพียงแต่เปิดพื้นที่ให้นักศึกษากายภาพบำบัดรุ่นใหม่จากประเทศญี่ปุ่นได้พัฒนาทักษะวิชาชีพผ่านการสังเกตการณ์ระบบเวชปฏิบัติจริง แต่ยังเป็นกลไกสำคัญในการกระชับความสัมพันธ์อันดีระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นและสถาบันพันธมิตรในประเทศญี่ปุ่น พร้อมทั้งตอกย้ำความเชื่อมั่นในระดับสากลต่อมาตรฐานการบริการทางเวชศาสตร์ฟื้นฟูและกายภาพบำบัดบูรณาการของโรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ให้เป็นที่ประจักษ์อย่างยั่งยืนสืบไป

 

MDKKU Hosts Pediatric Specialists from Lao PDR for Advanced Infectious Diseases Fellowship

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) expanded its regional healthcare footprint by welcoming two pediatric specialists from leading medical institutions in Lao PDR. The physicians are participating in a comprehensive two-year Fellowship Training Program at the Department of Pediatrics, running from July 6, 2026, to May 31, 2028, focusing on advanced pediatric infectious diseases and clinical management workflows at Srinagarind Hospital.

This bilateral educational initiative hosts outstanding pediatricians from Lao PDR’s premier clinical and academic centers:

Dr. Douangboupha SIPHAKANLAYA: A faculty member at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Health Sciences (UHS), and a pediatric specialist at the Children Hospital in Vientiane. Her primary objective is to integrate MDKKU’s advanced clinical workflows and academic training frameworks to support the educational and clinical infrastructure of Lao PDR’s upcoming university hospital, scheduled to open in three years.

Dr. Khounpaseuth PHIMMASONE: A pediatric specialist in the Paediatric In-Patient Department and Infectious Diseases Ward at Mahosot Hospital—the country’s premier national medical center. His exchange focuses on clinical observations of complex pediatric infections, including severe pneumonia and sepsis. By evaluating MDKKU’s standardized protocols, he aims to optimize diagnostic resource utilization, mitigate pediatric antimicrobial resistance, and mentor next-generation medical students and residents in Lao PDR upon program completion.

This academic collaboration between MDKKU and UHS Lao PDR highlights the international confidence placed in Khon Kaen University’s clinical training standards. By fostering borderless professional medical networks, both institutions continue to elevate pediatric healthcare outcomes and cultivate sustainable public health infrastructures across the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

 

 

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มข. หนุนยุทธศาสตร์ลุ่มน้ำโขง ต้อนรับ 2 กุมารแพทย์จาก สปป.ลาว ร่วมโปรแกรมฝึกอบรมแพทย์ประจำบ้านต่อยอด ณ โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (MDKKU) เดินหน้ายกระดับมาตรฐานระบบสาธารณสุขในภูมิภาคอนุภูมิภาคลุ่มน้ำโขง (GMS) ต้อนรับกุมารแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจำนวน 2 ท่าน จากสถาบันการแพทย์ชั้นนำของสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว ในโอกาสเดินทางเข้ารับการศึกษาอบรมในหลักสูตรแพทย์ประจำบ้านต่อยอด (Fellowship Training Program) ณ สาขาวิชากุมารเวชศาสตร์ เป็นระยะเวลา 2 ปีเต็ม (ตั้งแต่วันที่ 6 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2569 ถึงวันที่ 31 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2571) เพื่อมุ่งเน้นการพัฒนาทักษะการศึกษาดูงานเฉพาะทางด้านโรคติดเชื้อในเด็ก

สำหรับกุมารแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจาก สปป.ลาว ทั้งสองท่านที่ร่วมโปรแกรมฝึกอบรมในครั้งนี้ มีรายละเอียดโปรไฟล์และวัตถุประสงค์เชิงวิชาการที่น่าสนใจ ดังนี้:

Dr. Douangboupha SIPHAKANLAYA: อาจารย์แพทย์ประจำภาควิชากุมารเวชศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยวิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพ (UHS) ควบคู่กับการเป็นแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ณ โรงพยาบาลเด็ก (Children Hospital) นครหลวงเวียงจันทน์ โดยมีเป้าหมายในการนำองค์ความรู้และกลยุทธ์การบริบาลเฉพาะทางกลับไปพัฒนาระบบบริการคลินิกและระบบการเรียนการสอน เพื่อเตรียมความพร้อมรองรับการเปิดโรงพยาบาลมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งใหม่ (University Hospital) ของ สปป.ลาว ในอีก 3 ปีข้างหน้า

Dr. Khounpaseuth PHIMMASONE: แพทย์เฉพาะทางประจำหอผู้ป่วยเด็ก (Paediatric In-Patient Department) และวอร์ดโรคติดเชื้อ ณ โรงพยาบาลมโหสถ (Mahosot Hospital) ซึ่งเป็นโรงพยาบาลหลักระดับประเทศของ สปป.ลาว โดยมุ่งเน้นการร่วมสังเกตการณ์ชั้นคลินิกเชิงลึกและการอภิปรายแนวทางการรักษาโรคติดเชื้อรุนแรงในเด็ก เช่น โรคปอดอักเสบ (Pneumonia) และภาวะติดเชื้อในกระแสเลือด (Sepsis) เพื่อนำแนวทางปฏิบัติสากลไปช่วยแก้ไขข้อจำกัดด้านทรัพยากรการตรวจวินิจฉัย และลดอัตราการเกิดเชื้อดื้อยาในเด็ก พร้อมทั้งร่วมสร้างเสริมศักยภาพให้แก่นักศึกษาแพทย์และแพทย์ประจำบ้านรุ่นใหม่ในประเทศลาวเมื่อสำเร็จการศึกษา

ความร่วมมือทางการแพทย์ระหว่าง MDKKU และ UHS สปป.ลาว ในครั้งนี้ ไม่เพียงแต่ตอกย้ำความเชื่อมั่นที่สถาบันสาธารณสุขในระดับภูมิภาคมีต่อมาตรฐานโรงเรียนแพทย์ของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นฟันเฟืองสำคัญในมิติสาธารณสุขข้ามพรมแดน เพื่อร่วมกันยกระดับผลการรักษาพยาบาลเด็ก และสร้างรากฐานระบบสาธารณสุขที่แข็งแกร่งและยั่งยืนให้แก่ภูมิภาคอินโดจีนสืบไปในอนาคต

On July 9, 2026, the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, led by Assoc. Prof. Thuss Sanguansak, Vice Dean for International Relations and Corporate Communication, together with Assoc. Prof. Pattapong Kessomboon from the Department of Community, Family and Occupational Medicine, welcomed representatives from the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine, United States of America: Professor Amr Soliman, Chair of the Department of Community Health and Social Medicine, and Associate Medical Professor Nancy Sohler from the Department of Community Health and Social Medicine, during their visit to the Faculty to discuss opportunities for academic collaboration between the two institutions.

 

 

The meeting focused on discussions regarding the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as a framework for strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions. Both sides also explored opportunities for collaborative initiatives, including the exchange of faculty members, professional staff, researchers, and students, as well as cooperation in education, research, and other academic activities. These initiatives aim to foster the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and best practices while expanding international learning opportunities for students and personnel from both institutions.

The visit marked another important milestone in strengthening the partnership between the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, and the City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine. Both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing collaboration in education, research, and academic exchange, creating opportunities for the professional development of students, faculty members, researchers, and staff, while enhancing the internationalization of both institutions through sustainable academic partnerships.

เมื่อวันที่ 9 กรกฎาคม 2569 คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น นำโดย รองศาสตราจารย์ธรรศ สงวนศักดิ์ รองคณบดีฝ่ายวิเทศสัมพันธ์และสื่อสารองค์กร พร้อมด้วย รองศาสตราจารย์ปัตพงษ์ เกษสมบูรณ์ สาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์ชุมชน เวชศาสตร์ครอบครัว และอาชีวเวชศาสตร์ ให้การต้อนรับผู้แทนจาก City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine สหรัฐอเมริกา ซึ่งประกอบด้วย Professor Amr Soliman, Chair, Department of Community Health and Social Medicine และ Associate Medical Professor Nancy Sohler จาก Department of Community Health and Social Medicine ในโอกาสเดินทางเยือนคณะแพทยศาสตร์ เพื่อหารือแนวทางการพัฒนาความร่วมมือทางวิชาการระหว่างทั้งสองสถาบัน

MDKKU Hosts US Scholars for Intensive Clinical and Public Health Observations under USAC Program

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) expanded its global academic footprint under the “Internationalization Transformation” framework, welcoming two exceptional undergraduate healthcare scholars from the United States for the USAC Summer Internship 2026 program. Running from June 22 to July 24, 2026, the month-long exchange provides the international interns with a comprehensive clinical observation program focusing on advanced public health management and tertiary care workflows at Srinagarind Hospital.

The high-achieving cohort from the United States includes:

  1. Miss Mia Sarah Hensley: A fourth-year pre-med senior maintaining a perfect GPA of 4.00 in Neurobiology at the University of Cincinnati.
  2. Miss Gracie Mae Schulz: A third-year nursing honors student with a 3.44 GPA from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, previously recognized for excellent patient care.

To maximize academic synergy under MDKKU’s “Go International” framework, the hospital structured customized observational clinical rotations tailored to each scholar’s career trajectory:

 

 

Miss Mia Sarah Hensley conducted advanced observational studies at the Transplant Unit and evaluated pediatric critical care workflows at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to analyze culturally adapted critical care management. She also explored community-based medical research and structural epidemiological outreach at the Tawanchai Cleft Lip and Palate Research Center.

Miss Gracie Mae Schulz participated in joint clinical observations at the Transplant Unit, analyzed integrated geriatric nursing innovations at the Elderly Care Center, and observed clinical management workflows across specialized wards, including Medical Intermediate Care Unit 4B, Rehabilitation Ward 2Ch, and Premium Special Ward KW 7/1.

Both international interns concluded their clinical rotation by jointly completing a field deployment at the Samliam Primary Care Unit, analyzing Thailand’s proactive community-based medicine and preventative health architecture first-hand to understand regional healthcare equity.

Despite initial language barriers, the US interns utilized non-verbal communication and constructive clinical observations to study the cornerstones of Thai clinical practice: deep clinical empathy and holistic, patient-centered care. For the students, integrating these insights into Western biomedical frameworks provides invaluable tools for their future careers as globally aware physicians or travel nurses.

This bilateral initiative highlights MDKKU’s expanding role as an international healthcare training hub within the region. By cultivating sustainable academic alliances with premier US consortia, the university continues to raise global medical education standards and reinforce international trust in Thailand’s tertiary healthcare ecosystem.

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (MDKKU) เดินหน้าขับเคลื่อนยุทธศาสตร์ความเป็นนานาชาติ (Internationalization Transformation) ต้อนรับนักศึกษาแลกเปลี่ยนผู้มีผลการเรียนยอดเยี่ยมจำนวน 2 ท่าน จากสถาบันการศึกษาชั้นนำในสหรัฐอเมริกา ภายใต้โครงการ USAC Summer Internship 2026 ในโอกาสเดินทางเข้าโปรแกรมสังเกตการณ์ชั้นคลินิก (Clinical Observation Program) และศึกษาดูงานระบบการจัดการสาธารณสุขระดับตติยภูมิ ณ โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ ระหว่างวันที่ 22 มิถุนายน ถึง 24 กรกฎาคม 2569

นักศึกษาทั้งสองท่านได้เดินทางไปศึกษาดูงานระบบการแพทย์และการสาธารณสุขเชิงรุกร่วมกัน ณ หน่วยบริการปฐมภูมิสามเหลี่ยม (รพ.สต.สามเหลี่ยม) เพื่อศึกษาระบบการแพทย์ปฐมภูมิในพื้นที่จริง

การเดินทางมาร่วมแลกเปลี่ยนในครั้งนี้ คณะนักศึกษาได้เรียนรู้การปรับตัวข้ามวัฒนธรรม (Cultural Barriers) พร้อมทั้งศึกษาจุดเด่นของการบริบาลผู้ป่วยแบบองค์รวม (Holistic Healing) และการแสดงความเห็นอกเห็นใจ (Empathy) ซึ่งเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของระบบสาธารณสุขไทย ควบคู่ไปกับการแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองด้านการพยาบาลและการแพทย์ที่เป็นสากล ความสำเร็จของโครงการนี้ไม่เพียงแต่เปิดโอกาสให้เยาวชนสาธารณสุขรุ่นใหม่จากต่างแดนได้สัมผัสระบบการจัดการของโรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ แต่ยังช่วยกระชับความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ และตอกย้ำความเชื่อมั่นที่สถาบันระดับนานาชาติมีต่อมาตรฐานโรงเรียนแพทย์ของมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นในฐานะแกนนำสำคัญของภูมิภาคอย่างยั่งยืนสืบไป

 

MDKKU Welcomes Third-Year UHS Lao PDR Residents for Advanced Clinical Observations

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) has reaffirmed its position as an educational hub for the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) under its “Internationalization Transformation” strategy, welcoming a delegation of third-year internal medicine residents from the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Vientiane, Lao PDR. The international fellows are participating in a comprehensive clinical observation program at Srinagarind Hospital from July 6 to August 28, 2026.

Coordinated by MDKKU’s Department of Internal Medicine, the standardized international clinical elective allows the visiting fellows to evaluate complex tertiary care workflows and analyze advanced patient management systems across two clinical rotation blocks:

MDKKU Hosts French Medical Student for Advanced Clinical Observations in Cardiothoracic Surgery

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) has reinforced its global medical network under its “Internationalization Transformation” strategy, welcoming Miss Ludivine Spies, a third-year medical student from the Faculty of Medicine, Université de Rouen Normandie, France. Miss Spies is participating in an intensive three-week clinical observation program from July 6 to 24, 2026, at the Cardiothoracic Surgery Unit within the Department of Surgery.

This international exchange is facilitated through the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE), a global initiative organized locally by the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations – Thailand (IFMSA-Thailand), with the MDKKU Medical Student Union serving as the official institutional host.

Throughout the program, the exchange student evaluates advanced clinical workflows and observes complex cardiothoracic surgical procedures alongside MDKKU’s medical faculty.

MDKKU Welcomes Japanese Trauma Fellow and Lithuanian Medical Researcher for Advanced Orthopedic Clinical Observations

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU) continues to advance its “Internationalization Transformation” strategy, expanding its tertiary care academic medical services on the global stage. From July 6 to 24, 2026, the Department of Orthopedics at Srinagarind Hospital is hosting Dr. Fumihiro Inoue, an orthopedic specialist from Japan, and Miss Ieva Žemkauskaitė, an award-winning medical research student from the Republic of Lithuania, for an intensive clinical observation program.

The international cohort, representing top-tier medical and scientific institutions from Asia and the European Union, is participating in comprehensive clinical walk-throughs and structural exchanges:

Dr. Fumihiro Inoue (Japan): An orthopedic surgeon and researcher currently serving as a Postgraduate Clinical Fellow (PGY-5) at Saga University and Seirei Hamamatsu General Hospital. Dr. Inoue, who also serves as the official Team Physician for the J.League football club Sagan Tosu, is focusing his exchange on evaluating clinical workflows and observing high-complexity procedures within MDKKU’s Spine Surgery and Sports Orthopedics divisions.

Miss Ieva Žemkauskaitė (Lithuania): A fifth-year medical student recognized for Excellent Academic Performance at the Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University—the country’s oldest and most prestigious institution. Traveling under the Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE) via IFMSA-Thailand and the KKU Medical Student Union, Miss Ieva brings a distinguished research background in orthopedic traumatology, specifically in utilizing antibiotic cement-coated nails for infected non-unions. Her exchange centers tightly on clinical surgical observations alongside MDKKU’s trauma specialists.

The simultaneous hosting of global medical talents underscores the international recognition of MDKKU’s orthopedic faculty and the advanced tertiary care technologies available at Srinagarind Hospital. This short-term bilateral program serves as an effective platform to exchange disease-specific management strategies, foster cross-cultural medical collaboration, and strengthen enduring professional networks across the three nations.

 

 

 

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มข. ขับเคลื่อนยุทธศาสตร์สากล ต้อนรับศัลยแพทย์กระดูกและข้อชาวญี่ปุ่นและนักศึกษาแพทย์ทุนวิจัยจากลิทัวเนีย ร่วมสังเกตการณ์ชั้นคลินิก ณ สาขาวิชาออร์โธปิดิกส์

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (MDKKU) เดินหน้ายกระดับนวัตกรรมการศึกษาและการแพทย์ระดับตติยภูมิสู่เวทีสากลตามยุทธศาสตร์ “Internationalization Transformation” เปิดบ้านต้อนรับ Dr. Fumihiro Inoue ศัลยแพทย์ออร์โธปิดิกส์จากประเทศญี่ปุ่น และ Miss Ieva Žemkauskaitė นักศึกษาแพทย์ชั้นปีที่ 5 ทุนวิจัยยอดเยี่ยมจากสาธารณรัฐลิทัวเนีย ในโอกาสเดินทางมาเข้าโปรแกรมสังเกตการณ์ชั้นคลินิก (Clinical Observation Program) ณ สาขาวิชาออร์โธปิดิกส์ ระหว่างวันที่ 6 – 24 กรกฎาคม 2569

สำหรับคณะผู้แทนทางการแพทย์ระดับนานาชาติที่เดินทางมาเยือนในครั้งนี้ ได้เข้าร่วมศึกษาดูงานเพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนองค์ความรู้และการบริหารจัดการผู้ป่วยในหอผู้ป่วยเฉพาะทาง โดยมีรายละเอียดดังนี้:

Dr. Fumihiro Inoue (ประเทศญี่ปุ่น): ศัลยแพทย์ออร์โธปิดิกส์และนักวิจัย ดำรงตำแหน่ง Postgraduate Clinical Fellow (PGY-5) สังกัดคณะแพทยศาสตร์ Saga University และ Seirei Hamamatsu General Hospital ควบคู่กับการทำหน้าที่แพทย์ประจำทีม (Team Physician) ให้กับสโมสรฟุตบอล ซางัน โทสุ (Sagan Tosu) ในศึกเจลีก (J.League) ประเทศญี่ปุ่น โดย Dr. Inoue ได้เข้าสังเกตการณ์หัตถการตรรกะชั้นสูงในแผนกศัลยกรรมกระดูกสันหลัง (Spine Surgery) และวิทยาศาสตร์การกีฬา (Sports Orthopaedics) เพื่อศึกษาความแตกต่างของระบบสาธารณสุขและบริบทวัฒนธรรมทางการแพทย์ในประเทศไทย

Miss Ieva Žemkauskaitė (สาธารณรัฐลิทัวเนีย): นักศึกษาแพทย์ชั้นปีที่ 5 ทุนผลการเรียนยอดเยี่ยม (Excellent Academic Performance) จาก Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University ซึ่งเป็นสถาบันอุดมศึกษาที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดของลิทัวเนีย โดยเดินทางผ่านโครงการ Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE) ภายใต้การประสานงานของสมาพันธ์นิสิตนักศึกษาแพทย์นานาชาติแห่งประเทศไทย (IFMSA-Thailand) ร่วมกับสโมสรนักศึกษาแพทย์ มข. ทั้งนี้ Miss Ieva มีผลงานวิจัยที่โดดเด่นในนวัตกรรมการรักษากระดูกติดเชื้อโดยใช้แกนตะปูเคลือบซีเมนต์ผสมยาปฏิชีวนะ โดยการมาเยือนในครั้งนี้มุ่งเน้นการเข้าสังเกตการณ์การผ่าตัดทางออร์โธปิดิกส์และศัลยกรรมอุบัติเหตุ (Traumatology) ร่วมกับทีมคณาจารย์แพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญของไทยอย่างใกล้ชิด

การต้อนรับบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ระดับหัวกะทิจากทั้งประเทศญี่ปุ่นและสหภาพยุโรปพร้อมกันในครั้งนี้ ไม่เพียงแต่สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงศักยภาพของเทคโนโลยีการรักษาระดับตติยภูมิชั้นสูงของโรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ และความพร้อมของคณาจารย์แพทย์ออร์โธปิดิกส์ มข. ที่ได้รับการยอมรับในระดับนานาชาติเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นก้าวสำคัญในการขยายพื้นที่ความร่วมมือทางวิชาการ แลกเปลี่ยนกลยุทธ์การรักษาเฉพาะโรค และกระชับสายสัมพันธ์สากลระหว่างสถาบันแพทย์ของทั้งสามประเทศให้เกิดความยั่งยืนในอนาคต
