Driven by its strategic commitment to internationalization, the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (MDKKU), welcomed international medical exchange students from global partner institutions for clinical elective rotations in August 2026 at Srinagarind Hospital. Throughout their placements, the students gained exposure to tertiary-care medical practices, hospital management workflows, and clinical case management in Thailand, while experiencing Thai culture and community life.
Mr. Enol Rico Ahilagas, a medical student from the University of Oviedo, Spain, completed clinical rotations in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Pediatric Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery. He described the elective as highly educational and enriching, highlighting active participation in department conferences and observational rounds. He noted that communication with attending physicians, healthcare staff, and Thai medical students was seamless, and expressed sincere gratitude for the warm hospitality, social activities, and guided local tours provided by staff and fellow students outside hospital hours.
From the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria, Miss Avalon Sophie van der Smagt and Miss Christina Stumptner rotated across multiple specialized departments. Miss Avalon observed clinical operations in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, while Miss Christina rotated through the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Both students attended specialized outpatient clinics (OPD), participated in clinical case conferences, and examined Thai national childhood immunization protocols under faculty supervision.
In Emergency Medicine, Miss Christina observed critical resuscitations in the Resuscitation Room, observed pre-hospital care protocols aboard emergency ambulances, and attended weekly academic conferences. In Obstetrics and Gynecology, both students observed gynecology outpatient clinics, labor rooms, laparoscopic procedures, and major surgical interventions—including hysterectomies—as well as high-risk pregnancy monitoring. Beyond their clinical duties, both students immersed themselves in local cultural activities, including visits to the Natural History and Dinosaur Museum, a Thai culinary and eco-printing workshop at Mekin Farm, community aerobics, and a tour of Khon Kaen Zoo.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Chương from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Vietnam, joined a clinical elective in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine. His rotation focused on functional restoration and holistic patient care. He observed assessments for stroke rehabilitation and spinal cord injury management, and studied diagnostic modalities including musculoskeletal ultrasound, electromyography (EMG), fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), and videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). He also observed the in-house production and fitting of prostheses and orthoses at the hospital’s specialized workshop.
The success of these clinical elective placements reinforces clinical competencies and global health perspectives for international medical trainees, while fostering enduring institutional ties between the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, and international medical schools worldwide.

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (MDKKU) ภายใต้ยุทธศาสตร์การขับเคลื่อนสู่ความเป็นนานาชาติ ได้ต้อนรับและสนับสนุนนักศึกษาแพทย์แลกเปลี่ยนจากสถาบันพันธมิตรทั่วโลกที่เดินทางมาเข้าร่วมโครงการฝึกอบรมและศึกษาดูงานทางคลินิก (Clinical Elective Program) ในเดือนสิงหาคม 2569 ณ โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ ซึ่งตลอดระยะเวลาของการปฏิบัติงาน นักศึกษาแพทย์ชาวต่างชาติไม่เพียงแต่ได้เรียนรู้ระบบการแพทย์ การรักษาพยาบาล และการบริหารจัดการในโรงพยาบาลระดับตติยภูมิเท่านั้น แต่ยังได้สัมผัสกับการใช้ชีวิตและวัฒนธรรมอันงดงามในประเทศไทย พร้อมทั้งได้สะท้อนความประทับใจและสรุปผลการปฏิบัติงานผ่านมุมมองที่หลากหลาย
ในส่วนของ Mr. Enol Rico Ahilagas จาก University of Oviedo ประเทศสเปน ผู้ซึ่งได้เข้าร่วมศึกษาดูงานในสาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์ฉุกเฉินและหน่วยกุมารศัลยศาสตร์ สาขาวิชาศัลยศาสตร์ เผยว่าการหมุนเวียนปฏิบัติงานในโรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ถือเป็นประสบการณ์ที่ยอดเยี่ยมและมีประโยชน์อย่างยิ่ง เปิดโอกาสให้เขาได้มีส่วนร่วมอย่างกระตือรือร้นในกิจกรรมของสาขาวิชา การสื่อสารกับบุคลากรทางการแพทย์และนักศึกษาแพทย์ไทยเป็นไปอย่างราบรื่นแทบไม่มีอุปสรรคด้านภาษา นอกจากนี้ เจ้าตัวยังรู้สึกประทับใจเป็นอย่างยิ่งกับกิจกรรมทางสังคมและการต้อนรับอันอบอุ่นจากเจ้าหน้าที่และเพื่อนนักศึกษาแพทย์ไทย ที่คอยอำนวยความสะดวกและนำเที่ยวชมสถานที่สำคัญต่างๆ จนทำให้ได้รับประสบการณ์ที่ครบถ้วนทั้งในและนอกห้องเรียน
ขณะที่สองนักศึกษาแพทย์จาก Medical University of Innsbruck ประเทศออสเตรีย อย่าง Miss Avalon Sophie van der Smagt และ Miss Christina Stumptner ได้รับประสบการณ์อันล้ำค่าจากการหมุนเวียนปฏิบัติงานในหลากหลายแผนก โดย Miss Avalon ได้ศึกษาดูงานในสาขาวิชากุมารเวชศาสตร์และสาขาวิชาสูติศาสตร์และนรีเวชวิทยา ขณะที่ Miss Christina ศึกษาดูงานในสาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์ฉุกเฉินและสาขาวิชาสูติศาสตร์และนรีเวชวิทยา ทั้งสองท่านได้เรียนรู้ระบบการตรวจรักษาผู้ป่วยนอก (OPD) ในคลินิกเฉพาะทาง การร่วมฟังอภิปรายเคสผู้ป่วย และการเรียนรู้ตารางการสร้างเสริมภูมิคุ้มกันโรคสำหรับเด็กไทยโดยมีอาจารย์แพทย์คอยดูแลอย่างใกล้ชิด ในส่วนของงานเวชศาสตร์ฉุกเฉิน Miss Christina ได้มีโอกาสปฏิบัติงานในห้องปฏิบัติการกู้ชีพ (Resuscitation Room) ได้ร่วมขึ้นรถพยาบาลฉุกเฉินเพื่อเรียนรู้การดูแลผู้ป่วยก่อนถึงโรงพยาบาล และเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมวิชาการประจำสัปดาห์ ด้านสูติศาสตร์และนรีเวชวิทยานั้น นักศึกษาทั้งสองคนได้เรียนรู้การทำงานทั้งในคลินิกนรีเวช ห้องคลอด การผ่าตัดผ่านกล้องและการผ่าตัดใหญ่ เช่น การผ่าตัดมดลูก รวมถึงการสังเกตการณ์เคสความเสี่ยงสูงอย่างใกล้ชิด นอกเหนือจากเวลาเรียน ทั้งสองท่านยังได้เดินทางท่องเที่ยวเรียนรู้วัฒนธรรมไทย ทั้งการเยี่ยมชมพิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติวิทยาและไดโนเสาร์ เวิร์กช็อปทำอาหารไทยและการพิมพ์ลายผ้าจากธรรมชาติ (Eco-printing) ณ มีกินฟาร์ม ตลอดจนการทำกิจกรรมแอโรบิกและเยี่ยมชมสวนสัตว์ขอนแก่น
ในขณะเดียวกัน Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Chương จาก Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine ประเทศเวียดนาม ผู้ซึ่งเข้าศึกษาดูงาน ณ สาขาวิชาเวชศาสตร์ฟื้นฟู ได้มุ่งเน้นการศึกษาเรียนรู้ด้านการฟื้นฟูสมรรถภาพการทำงานของร่างกายและยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ป่วย ซึ่งถือเป็นมิติสำคัญที่ช่วยเติมเต็มมุมมองด้านการรักษา นอกเหนือจากการรักษาโรคทั่วไป โดยเขาได้ศึกษาการประเมินผู้ป่วยโรคหลอดเลือดสมอง การบาดเจ็บไขสันหลัง พร้อมทั้งเรียนรู้ผ่านเครื่องมือวินิจฉัยสมัยใหม่ เช่น Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, EMG, FEES และ VFSS รวมถึงการเยี่ยมชมกระบวนการผลิตอุปกรณ์เทียมและอุปกรณ์พยุง (Prosthesis & Orthosis) ของโรงพยาบาล
ความสำเร็จของโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาแพทย์นานาชาติเหล่านี้ ไม่เพียงแต่ช่วยเสริมสร้างทักษะทางคลินิกและมุมมองการสาธารณสุขในระดับสากลให้แก่เยาวชนจากหลากหลายประเทศเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นการกระชับความสัมพันธ์อันดีระหว่างคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น และสถาบันการแพทย์ทั่วโลก เพื่อก้าวสู่การเป็นศูนย์กลางทางการแพทย์ที่ยั่งยืนสืบไป
