KKU-MD professor receives the Princess Health Award 2023

 

Professor Pisake Lumbiganon, MD, KKU-MD Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, recently received an “Academic Achievement” award from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The award presentation ceremony was held on June 21, 2023 at the 16th National Health Promotion and Environmental Health Conference 2023.

The Ministry of Public Health selected candidates for the Princess Health Awards 2023 to honor individuals and organizations for their innovative achievements in health promotion and environmental health.

Srinagarind Hospital is Thailand’s Best Hospital 2021

 

Newsweek has ranked Srinagarind Hospital as Thailand’s best hospital in 2021 (Best Hospitals 2021 – Thailand).

Srinagarind Hospital, a government hospital was the second regional medical school to opened outside Bangkok.  It is named after HRH Princess Srinagarindra, the mother of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and the paternal grandmother of King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X).

On 23 June 1975, Khon Kaen University opened a small temporary hospital building for teaching and treatment of patients, that became known as ‘Hut Hospital’. King Bhumibol Adulyadej laid the foundation stone for the new hospital on 19 February 1976 and named it ‘Srinagarind Hospital’.  The new hospital opened on 15 December 1983.

Srinagarind Hospital is a regional “super-tertiary care” hospital with teaching and research functions for the affiliated KKU Faculty of Medicine.   It operates under the responsibility of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation.

Srinagarind Hospital is the largest public hospital in Northeast region of Thailand, with more than 1,500 beds capacity and serves more than a million patients per year.  The medical faculty accepts about 250 incoming medical students each year, and more than 65 postgraduate residency and fellowship training programs.

This honor given to Srinagarind Hospital by Newsweek is further testament to its commitment to becoming a world class university that brings value to Thai society and all mankind.

 

 

MDKKU Professor receives Distinguished Medical Woman Award

 

MDKKU Professor has been praised and recognized for her outstanding contribution to medical teaching, learning, and assessment.

Associate Professor Chompilas Chongsomchai, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, has been honored with a Distinguished Medical Woman Award 2020 from the Thai Medical Women’s Association Under The Royal Patronage of Her Majesty The Queen (TMWA).

Every year the TMWA presents this award to a Thai medical woman who makes a significant contribution to medical teaching and learning, medical services and health care, or administration.

Associate Professor Chompilas Chongsomchai has made outstanding contribution to the encouragement and improvement of medical teaching, learning, and assessment to produce highly-trained qualified obstetricians and gynecologists.

MDKKU Surgeon Awarded Outstanding Plastic Surgeon 2020

 

On October 7, 2020, Assistant Professor Palakorn Surakunprapha, Head of the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, was awarded Outstanding Plastic Surgeon 2020 Award at the 30th Annual Meeting of the Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Thailand and the Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons of Thailand “Plastic Surgery in Disruptive Era”, the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, Bangkok.

Assistant Professor Palakorn Surakunprapha is a well-known specialist plastic surgeon. He has been working as doctor at Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University since 1990. He has been appointed as Head, Department of Surgery since 2014. He has a focus on improving the quality of patients’ lives and medical services in the field of plastic surgery through academic and clinical research. He is a dedicated medical educator and is recognized with many national and international awards for his contribution in producing qualified medical students and doctors with plastic surgery skills.

Assistant Professor of Biochemistry Receives 2020 Outstanding Young Scientist Award

 

Assistant Professor Atit Silsirivanit, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, is named this year’s winner of the 2020 Professor M.R. Jisnuson Svasti Young Protein Scientist of Thailand Award for his outstanding research and contributions to development of protein science in Thailand.

Assistant Professor Atit Silsirivanit is a distinguished scientist who has pioneered work on glycosylation, including O-GlcNAc modification, of proteins in Cholangiocarcinoma which lead to improvement of the accuracy of CCA diagnosis and treatment.

The Young Protein Scientist of Thailand Award is presented to the young scientists who have published excellent research and contributed to protein science in their institutions and in Thailand. This year, the awards and honorary lectures by the awardees will be presented at the 15th International Symposium of the Protein Society of Thailand which will be held on 4th – 6th of November at the Chulabhorn Research Institute Convention Center in Bangkok.

MDKKU Professor awarded for Outstanding Technologist of the Year 2020

 

On October 5, 2020, Professor Pewpan Maleewong, Assistant to the President for Research and Higher Education and Professor of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, was awarded “Outstanding Technologist Award 2020: Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under the Patronage of His Majesty the King” by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the 46th International Congress on Science, Technology and Technology-based Innovation in Bangkok.

Professor Pewpan Maleewong is named the winner of this award due to her great contribution to develop the rapid ICT Kit for tropical parasitic infectious diseases which will improve the efficiency of parasite detection and reduce the time and cost of laboratory test as well as increase the income and stimulate Thai industry to compete in international markets of medical equipment manufacturing.

Faculty of Medicine Former Executive Administrator gain international recognition

 

On 20 September 2019 Professor Pisake Lumbiganon, previous dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, had received certificate of recognition from Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in United Kingdom. This news bring happiness to all of staff in the faculty of medicine. While Professor Pisake Lumbiganon was working as dean for the faculty of medicine, Khon Kaen University, he was loved by all the administrator and staff member so seeing him successful also bring happiness to us all.
