I participated in Department of Surgery for 4 weeks in Innsbruck Medical University (IMU). Although, IMU is one of the youngest universities in Austria, here is the most important institution for medical research and education in Western Austria. I have memorable experiences during an elective program.
Visceral-Transplantation surgery as well as Endocrine surgery requires many assistants. As a medical student who can attend various operative fields. I participated in many interesting cases. For example, Kidney transplantation, Liver transplantation, Hepatectomy, Thyroidectomy, tumor removal and LN dissection, Pyrolic Preserved Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD), Hernial repair, Laparoscopic adrenalectomy, and cholecystectomy. I learnt many surgical techniques and the new instruments including intraoperative laryngeal nerve monitoring during thyroidectomy.
Apart from the academic program, I have many new friends who are really nice to me. I spent time traveling and learnt Austrian culture in Innsbruck with my medical student friends. Moreover, my German friends invited me to her hometown, Freiburg where is really lovely town. After that my friends and I traveled along Europe.
I believed that it’s better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times. Thanks to the International Relations Office, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University for this grateful opportunity.
