SHANGHAI, China, August 26, 2026 — Mr. Surapon Petch-vra, Vice Chairman of the Khon Kaen University Council, together with Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University, and Prof. Pewpan Maleewong, Vice President for Research, led a 14-member delegation of Khon Kaen University (KKU) administrators and researchers on a courtesy call on Ms. Tachaphorn Suntrajarn, Consul-General of Thailand in Shanghai.
The visit focused on promoting academic and research cooperation between Thailand and China in medicine and health sciences, as well as exploring opportunities for KKU to develop closer links with leading universities and research institutes in Shanghai.
During the discussion, Mr. Surapon Petch-vra, Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul and Prof. Pewpan Maleewong provided an update on the progress of collaboration between Khon Kaen University and the Human Phenome Institute, Fudan University, in Shanghai, China. Asst. Prof. Jutarop Phetcharaburanin, Director of the National Phenome Institute and a key coordinator of the collaboration, provided further details on research in phenomics and bioinformatics.
The collaboration will draw on the expertise of both institutions to support the development of the Thai Human Phenome Atlas Project, a phenome database of the Thai population for studying health, individual variation and factors associated with disease, with the aim of supporting precision medicine. The partnership also includes exchanges of researchers, staff and students.
The two institutions are scheduled to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 27, 2026, at the Human Phenome Institute, Fudan University. Ms. Tachaphorn Suntrajarn, Consul-General of Thailand in Shanghai, has been invited to attend the signing ceremony as a witness.
The discussion also focused on expanding KKU’s research network in Shanghai, particularly by developing links with universities and research institutes with expertise in medicine, health sciences and related technologies. It also explored opportunities for Thai and Chinese researchers, specialists and staff to work more closely together.

Shanghai is a major center for education, science, technology and innovation in China and is home to leading universities and research institutes with expertise in medicine, life sciences and health technologies.
Connecting Thai universities, research institutes and researchers with Shanghai’s academic and research networks is an important part of the work of the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Shanghai, creating opportunities for joint research, exchanges of researchers and specialists, knowledge and technology transfer, and collaborative innovation. Such cooperation could contribute to disease prevention, more precise diagnosis and more effective treatment, ultimately improving the health and quality of life of people in both countries.

การพบหารือครั้งนี้มุ่งส่งเสริมความร่วมมือด้านการแพทย์ วิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพ และการวิจัยระหว่างไทยและจีน พร้อมหารือโอกาสในการพัฒนาความร่วมมือระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นกับมหาวิทยาลัยและสถาบันวิจัยชั้นนำในนครเซี่ยงไฮ้
ในการหารือ นายสุรพล เพชรวรา รศ.ชาญชัย พานทองวิริยะกุล และ ศ.ผิวพรรณ มาลีวงษ์ ได้ร่วมรายงานความก้าวหน้าความร่วมมือระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นกับ Human Phenome Institute, Fudan University โดยมี ผศ.จุฑารพ เพชรบูระณิน ผู้อำนวยการสถาบันฟีโนมแห่งชาติและผู้ประสานงานหลักของความร่วมมือ ร่วมให้ข้อมูลด้านการวิจัย โดยเฉพาะ ฟีโนมิกส์ (Phenomics) และชีวสารสนเทศ (Bioinformatics) ซึ่งจะนำความเชี่ยวชาญของทั้งสองสถาบันมาสนับสนุนการพัฒนา Thai Human Phenome Atlas Project ฐานข้อมูลฟีโนมของประชากรไทยสำหรับศึกษาสุขภาพ ความแตกต่างระหว่างบุคคล และปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเกิดโรค เพื่อต่อยอดสู่ การแพทย์แม่นยำ (Precision Medicine) ควบคู่กับการแลกเปลี่ยนนักวิจัย บุคลากร และนักศึกษา โดยทั้งสองสถาบันมีกำหนดลงนามบันทึกข้อตกลง (MOU) ในวันที่ 27 สิงหาคม 2569 ณ Human Phenome Institute, Fudan University และได้เชิญ นางสาวธัชพร สุนทราจารย์ กงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครเซี่ยงไฮ้ เข้าร่วมเป็นสักขีพยานในพิธีลงนาม
การหารือยังให้ความสำคัญกับการขยายเครือข่ายวิจัยของมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นในนครเซี่ยงไฮ้ โดยเฉพาะการสร้างความร่วมมือกับมหาวิทยาลัยและสถาบันวิจัยที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญด้านการแพทย์ วิทยาศาสตร์สุขภาพ และเทคโนโลยีที่เกี่ยวข้อง รวมถึงการเปิดโอกาสให้นักวิจัย ผู้เชี่ยวชาญ และบุคลากรของไทยและจีนได้ทำงานร่วมกันมากขึ้น
