The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (MDKKU), through the Karunruk Palliative Care Center at Srinagarind Hospital, has officially accepted two specialist physicians from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) for its prestigious international fellowship program. The doctors are enrolled in the Professional Postgraduate Diploma Program in Family Medicine (Palliative Care), with clinical residency and practical training commencing on June 15, 2026.
The distinguished fellows receiving scholarship support for this cohort are:
- Dr. Soubinh Syhalath: Medical Director and Anesthesiologist from Vientiane Provincial Hospital.
- Dr. Soukkaseum Sithongmaha: Medical Director and Neurologist from Champasak Provincial Hospital.
Associate Professor Srivieng Pairojkul, Head of the Karunruk Palliative Care Center, stated that the center, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN), has been continuously driving the development of palliative care skills among healthcare professionals in Lao PDR since 2019. This intensive fellowship training highlights both comprehensive theoretical instruction and real-world clinical practice. The curriculum thoroughly covers vital communication skills, systemic symptom management, and end-of-life care workshops. This robust training empowers the fellows with the clinical expertise and leadership skills needed to establish specialized units and effectively elevate palliative care standards within their local provincial hospitals.
The curriculum transitions from advanced symptom management and critical communication skills workshops to immersive real-world clinical observations at Srinagarind Hospital. This robust training equips the fellows with the essential clinical competencies and leadership skills necessary to establish specialized palliative care units and elevate holistic healthcare standards within their home provincial institutions.
This successful enrollment marks a significant milestone in advancing MDKKU’s “Internationalization Transformation” strategy. ศูนย์การุณรักษ์ คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มข. ต้อนรับ 2 แพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจาก สปป.ลาว เข้าศึกษาอบรมหลักสูตรแพทย์ประจำบ้านต่อยอดด้านการดูแลรักษาแบบประคับประคอง
คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น โดยศูนย์การุณรักษ์ โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ ได้ตอบรับแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจากสาธารณรัฐประชาธิปไตยประชาชนลาว (สปป.ลาว) จำนวน 2 ท่าน เข้าศึกษาอบรมในหลักสูตรประกาศนียบัตรวิชาชีพเวชกรรมด้านเวชศาสตร์ครอบครัวการบริบาลแบบประคับประคอง (Fellowship Training in Palliative Care) มีกำหนดระยะเวลาฝึกอบรมระหว่างวันที่ 15 มิถุนายน 2569 ถึงวันที่ 30 มิถุนายน 2570 สำหรับรายนามของแพทย์ผู้รับทุนเข้าศึกษาอบรมในครั้งนี้ ได้แก่:
- Dr. Soubinh Syhalath ผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายการแพทย์ (Medical Director) จากโรงพยาบาลแขวงเวียงจันทน์ (Vientiane Provincial Hospital)

รองศาสตราจารย์ศรีเวียง ไพโรจน์กุล หัวหน้าศูนย์การุณรักษ์ โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ เปิดเผยว่า ศูนย์การุณรักษ์ได้ร่วมมือกับ Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network: APHN ขับเคลื่อนการพัฒนาทักษะการดูแลผู้ป่วยแบบประคับประคองร่วมกับบุคลากรสาธารณสุขของ สปป.ลาว มาอย่างต่อเนื่องตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2562 โดย การฝึกอบรมในครั้งนี้ จะเน้นการฝึกอบรมเชิงลึกทั้งภาคทฤษฎีและภาคปฏิบัติในสถานการณ์จริง ครอบคลุมการพัฒนาทักษะการสื่อสาร การจัดการอาการ และการดูแลผู้ป่วยระยะสุดท้ายอย่างเป็นระบบ ซึ่งจะช่วยให้แพทย์ผู้เข้ารับการอบรมสามารถนำองค์ความรู้และทักษะความเป็นผู้นำ กลับไปวางรากฐานการจัดตั้งหน่วยบริการและยกระดับมาตรฐานการบริบาลแบบประคับประคองให้แก่ผู้ป่วยในโรงพยาบาลท้องถิ่นของ สปป.ลาว ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพต่อไป
การดำเนินงานดังกล่าวนับเป็นก้าวสำคัญที่ช่วยสนับสนุนยุทธศาสตร์การพัฒนาคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น สู่ความเป็นนานาชาติ (Internationalization Transformation) ในการสร้างความร่วมมือทางวิชาการและระบบสาธารณสุขระดับภูมิภาค เพื่อกระชับความสัมพันธ์อันแน่นแฟ้นและยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตของประชากรในกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียนร่วมกันอย่างยั่งยืน
