Khon Kaen, Thailand – From December 1 to 4, 2024, a delegation from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) embarked on a significant visit to Khon Kaen University (KKU) in Thailand. The mission: to study the Lawa Model, a globally acclaimed initiative to combat liver fluke infections.

Led by Dr. Jun Li, Deputy Director of the Institute of Parasitic Disease Prevention and Control , the delegation included senior experts:

• Dr. Guo Rong Tang, Deputy Director of Guilin CDC
• Dr. Dian Feng Dai, Director of the Longsheng County CDC
• Dr. Wen Qian Tangand Dr. Jian Liu, physicians specializing in parasitic disease prevention

The visit underscored Thailand’s leadership in tropical medicine and public health innovation, with the Lawa Model serving as a beacon of success on the world stage, particularly highlighted at WHO forums.

A Day of Exchange and Inspiration: December 2, 2024

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Associate Professor Dr. Warachaya Phanphruk, Assistant Dean for International Relations at KKU’s Faculty of Medicine. Joining her were esteemed researchers, including:

• Prof. Dr. Banchob Sripa, Director of the Tropical Disease Research Laboratory (TDRC)
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sutas Suttiprapa, Head, Department of Tropical Medicine

In an atmosphere of collegiality, the delegation participated in a ceremonial exchange of tokens and a group photo session that reflected the growing partnership between the two nations.

The highlight of the day was a series of in-depth presentations:

• “Tropical Medicine at Khon Kaen University” by  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sutas Suttiprapa, emphasizing the university’s role as a regional leader in tropical health education
• “Research and Control Activities at TDRC”by  Prof. Banchob Sripa, spotlighting groundbreaking work in liver fluke control
• “GIS Showcase: Liver Fluke and STH Control in Thailand”by  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apiporn T. Suwannatrai, illustrating the use of GIS technology in tracking and mitigating parasite transmission

The delegation concluded their day with a visit to the Regional Medical Sciences Center 7 Khon Kaen, a regional reference laboratory for disease diagnosis and acreditation in Northeast Thailand.

Immersive Field Experience: December 3, 2024

On December 3, the delegation traveled to Lawa village, the heart of the Lawa Model’s success. The day began at Lawa Health Promoting Hospital, where Prof. Dr. Banchob Sripa presented the intricate connections between liver fluke infections and cholangiocarcinoma, a leading cancer in Northeast Thailand.

The visitors witnessed the remarkable contributions of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs), whose grassroots efforts are central to the model’s success. Their work in raising community awareness and promoting preventive behaviors showcased the power of local engagement.

At Lawa School, the delegation observed the “Liver Fluke-Free School Program”, which educates young minds on hygiene and parasite prevention through interactive learning. Students proudly demonstrated their projects, exemplifying how education can transform community health from the ground up.

The delegation also explored a local fermented fish production site, delving into efforts to reduce parasite risks by encouraging safe preparation and cooking practices.

The afternoon brought the group to Lawa Lake, a cultural and ecological landmark. Here, activities included:

• A traditional fishing demonstration by local fishermen
• A cooking demonstration on preparing koi pla, a raw fish delicacy, with safer techniques
• An environmental showcase on sustainable practices to curb parasite transmission

Global Impact: A Partnership for Better Public Health

The visit culminated in renewed hope and shared commitment to fighting against liver fluke infections. Thailand’s Lawa Model not only addresses a critical health challenge but also serves as an adaptable framework for other regions.

For the Chinese delegation, the experience underscored the importance of combining scientific expertise with community participation. The potential to replicate the Lawa Model in Guangxi represents a transformative opportunity to enhance public health and foster deeper international collaboration.

As the delegation departed Khon Kaen, the echoes of shared knowledge and newfound friendships marked the beginning of a brighter, healthier future—one built on mutual respect and shared innovation.

ระหว่างวันที่ 1-4 ธันวาคม 2567 คณะผู้แทนจากศูนย์ควบคุมและป้องกันโรค เขตปกครองตนเองกว่างซีจ้วง ประเทศจีน นำโดย ดร.จุน หลี่ (รองผู้อำนวยการสถาบันป้องกันและควบคุมโรคปรสิต) พร้อมด้วยผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ได้แก่

สัมผัสวิถีชุมชนผ่าน “ละว้าโมเดล”

การลงพื้นที่ ณ ชุมชนบ้านละว้า ตำบลเมืองเพีย อำเภอบ้านไผ่ จังหวัดขอนแก่น ในวันที่ 3 ธันวาคม 2567 เป็นหัวใจสำคัญของการเยือนครั้งนี้ คณะผู้แทนได้สัมผัสการดำเนินงานจริงของ “ละว้าโมเดล” ซึ่งเป็นโมเดลที่เป็นต้นแบบแห่งการควบคุมพยาธิใบไม้ตับที่ผสมผสานวิทยาศาสตร์ การแพทย์ และพลังชุมชนเข้าด้วยกันอย่างลงตัว

เยี่ยมชมโรงพยาบาลส่งเสริมสุขภาพตำบลละว้า: ศูนย์กลางสุขภาพชุมชน

การเดินทางเริ่มต้นที่ โรงพยาบาลส่งเสริมสุขภาพตำบลบ้านละว้า ซึ่งเปรียบเสมือนศูนย์กลางการดูแลสุขภาพของชุมชน คณะผู้แทนได้รับการต้อนรับจากผู้อำนวยการรพ.สต. ด้วยความอบอุ่น และได้รับฟังการบรรยายจาก ศ.ดร.บรรจบ ศรีภา ในหัวข้อ “พยาธิใบไม้ตับ มะเร็งท่อน้ำดี และละว้าโมเดล” ซึ่งอธิบายถึงการเชื่อมโยงระหว่างการติดเชื้อพยาธิใบไม้ตับกับการเกิดมะเร็งท่อน้ำดีในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของประเทศไทย การนำเสนอครั้งนี้เน้นถึงการป้องกันและควบคุมโรคพยาธิใบไม้ตับที่ครอบคลุมทุกมิติตามหลักการ “สุขภาพหนึ่งเดียว” (One Health) ซึ่งประกอบด้วยสุขภาพคน สัตว์ และ สิ่งแวดล้อม ตั้งแต่การรณรงค์ในชุมชนเพื่อปรับเปลี่ยนพฤติกรรมการบริโภคอาหารดิบทั้งในชุมชน โรงเรียน ไปจนถึงการปรับเปลี่ยนสิ่งแวดล้อมเพื่อลดประชากรของหอยพาหะ อันจะนำไปสู่การควบคุมโรคพยาธิใบไม้ตับและมะเร็งท่อน้ำดีอย่างยั่งยืน ต่อไป

อาสาสมัครสาธารณสุข: พลังของคนในชุมชน

จุดเด่นของการเยี่ยมชมครั้งนี้คือ การสาธิตการทำงานของ อาสาสมัครสาธารณสุขประจำหมู่บ้าน (อสม.) ซึ่งเป็นหัวใจสำคัญของ “ละว้าโมเดล” อสม. ได้แสดงให้เห็นถึงบทบาทที่สำคัญในการเฝ้าระวังและให้ความรู้แก่ประชาชนเรื่องการป้องกันการติดเชื้อพยาธิใบไม้ตับ การทำงานที่จริงจังและมีเป้าหมายนี้ ทำให้ชุมชนละว้ากลายเป็นต้นแบบของการมีส่วนร่วมในระดับชุมชนที่ได้ผลจริง

โรงเรียนปลอดพยาธิใบไม้ตับ: การเริ่มต้นที่เยาวชน

คณะผู้แทนเดินทางต่อไปยัง โรงเรียนบ้านละว้า เพื่อเยี่ยมชม “โครงการโรงเรียนปลอดพยาธิใบไม้ตับ” ที่เน้นการให้ความรู้แก่นักเรียนเกี่ยวกับสุขอนามัยและการป้องกันการติดเชื้อผ่านกิจกรรมการเรียนการสอนที่สนุกสนานและสร้างสรรค์ เด็กนักเรียนได้นำเสนอผลงานที่แสดงถึงความเข้าใจในโรคและการป้องกันด้วยความกระตือรือร้น ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นถึงความสำเร็จของโครงการในการปลูกฝังพฤติกรรมสุขภาพตั้งแต่วัยเยาว์

เยี่ยมชมบ้านผลิตปลาส้ม: การปรับเปลี่ยนเพื่อความปลอดภัย

อีกหนึ่งจุดหมายสำคัญคือการเยี่ยมชมบ้านของครัวเรือนที่ผลิตปลาส้ม อาหารพื้นบ้านที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ของภาคอีสาน คณะผู้แทนได้เห็นกระบวนการผลิตอย่างละเอียด พร้อมร่วมพูดคุยถึงการลดความเสี่ยงในการติดเชื้อพยาธิใบไม้ตับจากการบริโภคปลาส้มดิบ ผ่านการส่งเสริมการใช้ปลาที่ผ่านการปรุงสุกหรือปลอดเชื้อ การเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้สะท้อนถึงผลลัพธ์ของการดำเนินโครงการที่สร้างความตระหนักรู้ในระดับครัวเรือน

กิจกรรมที่แก่งละว้า: ความสมดุลระหว่างวิทยาศาสตร์และวิถีชีวิต

ช่วงบ่าย คณะผู้แทนได้เดินทางไปยังแก่งละว้าซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่สำคัญที่แสดงถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างวิถีชีวิตและสิ่งแวดล้อมในชนบทของภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ โดยมีกิจกรรมที่น่าสนใจ ได้แก่

• การหาจับปลาจากแหล่งน้ำธรรมชาติ โดยชาวบ้านในพื้นที่
• การสาธิตการปรุงอาหารพื้นบ้าน เช่น“ก้อยปลา” พร้อมคำแนะนำในการปรับปรุงให้เหมาะสมต่อสุขภาพ
• การนำเสนอการปรับปรุงสิ่งแวดล้อมเพื่อควบคุมแหล่งแพร่เชื้อพยาธิใบไม้ตับ

ผลลัพธ์แห่งความร่วมมือ: จากขอนแก่นสู่สากล

การเยือนครั้งนี้ไม่เพียงแต่เปิดโอกาสให้คณะผู้แทนได้เห็นถึงความสำเร็จของ “ละว้าโมเดล” ในการควบคุมพยาธิใบไม้ตับ แต่ยังสะท้อนถึงความสำคัญของการมีส่วนร่วมของทุกภาคส่วน ตั้งแต่นักวิจัย องค์กรสาธารณสุข ไปจนถึงคนในชุมชนเอง แต่ยังสะท้อนถึงศักยภาพของมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นในการเป็นผู้นำด้านสุขภาพระดับโลก การดำเนินงานของ “ละว้าโมเดล” ไม่เพียงช่วยลดการติดเชื้อในชุมชน แต่ยังเป็นตัวอย่างที่สามารถนำไปปรับใช้ในบริบทของประเทศอื่น

การเยี่ยมชมครั้งนี้จบลงด้วยความประทับใจที่ไม่เพียงแต่สร้างแรงบันดาลใจให้กับคณะผู้แทน แต่ยังเป็นการยืนยันถึงความสำเร็จของมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นในฐานะศูนย์กลางความรู้และการแก้ปัญหาด้านสุขภาพในระดับโลก

中国广西壮族自治区疾病预防控制中心代表团访问泰国孔敬大学，深入了解“拉瓦模型”在肝吸虫病防控中的成功实践

2024年12月1日至4日，由广西壮族自治区疾病预防控制中心副主任李军博士（Dr. Jun Li）率领的代表团访问了泰国孔敬大学医学院，深入了解“拉瓦模型”在泰东北地区肝吸虫病防控中的成功实践。 代表团成员包括桂林市疾控中心副主任唐国荣博士（Dr. Guorong Tang）、龙胜市疾控中心主任戴天峰博士（Dr. Tianfeng Dai）、寄生虫病防控专家唐文谦博士（Dr. Wenqian Tang）和刘健博士（Dr. Jian Liu）。

12月2日，孔敬大学医学院副院长瓦拉查亚·潘普鲁克副教授（Assoc. Prof. Warachaya Phanphruk）及其团队热情接待了代表团。 双方就医学院概况进行了深入交流，并互赠纪念品，气氛融洽。 孔敬大学的专家学者，包括热带病研究中心主任班乔·斯里帕教授（Prof. Banjob Sripa）、热带医学系主任苏塔特·苏提帕副教授（Assoc. Prof. Sutath Sutthisripok）、阿皮蓬·素万特莱副教授（Assoc. Prof. Apiporn Suwannatrai）、帕瑟·赛乔助理教授（Asst. Prof. Prasert Saichua）、兽医学院的西里卡乔恩·唐卡瓦塔纳副教授（Assoc. Prof. Sirikachorn Tangkawattana）和苏吉特拉·猜亚德博士（Dr. Sujitra Chaiyadet）等，分享了他们在热带医学领域的研究成果。

在随后的专题讲座中，苏塔特·苏提帕副教授介绍了孔敬大学热带医学系的教学与研究情况；班乔·斯里帕教授详细阐述了热带病研究中心的研究活动和“拉瓦模型”的实施过程；阿皮蓬·素万特莱副教授展示了地理信息系统（GIS）在泰国肝吸虫病和土源性蠕虫（STH）防控中的应用。 当天下午，代表团还参观了孔敬第七医学科学中心，了解其在公共卫生和疾病防控方面的工作。

12月3日，代表团前往孔敬府班派县棉皮亚镇的拉瓦村，实地考察“拉瓦模型”的实施情况。 在拉瓦村健康促进医院，班乔·斯里帕教授以“肝吸虫、胆管癌与拉瓦模型”为题，介绍了肝吸虫感染与泰东北地区胆管癌高发之间的关联，以及“拉瓦模型”在防控中的作用。 代表团还观摩了村级卫生志愿者（VHV）的工作，了解他们在社区健康教育和疾病监测中的关键作用。

随后，代表团访问了拉瓦村学校，了解“无肝吸虫学校”项目，通过寓教于乐的方式，向学生传授卫生知识和预防措施。 学生们积极展示了他们对疾病预防的理解，体现了项目在培养健康行为方面的成功。 代表团还参观了当地家庭的酸鱼制作过程，讨论如何通过推广熟食或无寄生虫鱼类，降低生食酸鱼导致的肝吸虫感染风险。

下午，代表团前往拉瓦溪，观察当地居民的捕鱼活动和传统生鱼菜肴“拌鱼”的制作过程，并了解环境改造在减少肝吸虫传播中的作用。 通过此次访问，代表团深入了解了“拉瓦模型”在社区参与、健康教育和环境管理方面的综合策略，以及其在降低肝吸虫感染率和相关胆管癌发病率方面的显著成效。

此次访问不仅加深了中泰两国在公共卫生领域的交流与合作，也为广西在肝吸虫病防控中借鉴“拉瓦模型”提供了宝贵经验。 孔敬大学在全球健康领域的领导地位和“拉瓦模型”的成功实践，为其他国家和地区提供了可行的防控策略。 代表团对此次访问表示高度赞赏，并期待未来与孔敬大学在科研和公共卫生项目上开展更深入的合作。

27 November 2024, Khon Kaen, Thailand – The Clinical Laboratory at Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, extended a warm welcome to an esteemed delegation of experts from the University of South Australia. Led by Dr. Sheree Bailey, a globally recognized authority in Flow Cytometry, the delegation comprised Ms. Amanda Ivett, Ms. Amy Kita, Mr. Nicholas Kellermann, and Mr. Phat Tai Vo. This visit marks a significant step forward in fostering international collaboration and knowledge-sharing in medical science. 

A Meeting of Minds Across Borders

The Australian delegation was met with heartfelt hospitality by prominent leaders from Srinagarind Hospital’s Clinical Laboratory, including Mr. Prachuap Chaimanee, Deputy Head of the Clinical Laboratory and Head of the Molecular Diagnostics Unit. Known for spearheading innovative approaches in genetic testing and molecular diagnostics, Mr. Prachuap emphasized the importance of cutting-edge technology in addressing modern medical challenges.

Accompanying him were Ms. Waewta Kuwatchanakul, Head of the Clinical Microbiology Unit, and Ms. Pimjai Ananta, Head of the Specimen Management Unit. Both leaders are highly respected in their fields, with Ms. Waewta specializing in microbial diagnostics for infectious diseases and Ms. Pimjai overseeing efficient and precise management of medical specimens. Together, these leaders provided the Australian delegation with a comprehensive introduction to the lab’s state-of-the-art facilities and services. 

Bridging Innovations in Medical Diagnostics

The visit centered around knowledge exchange and collaborative discussions on advanced diagnostic technologies, particularly Flow Cytometry—a revolutionary tool for analyzing cell characteristics at the molecular level. Dr. Bailey, who has extensive experience in clinical and research flow cytometry, shared insights into its application in hematology and oncology, particularly in diagnosing and monitoring leukemia and lymphoma.

The delegation toured Srinagarind Hospital’s seven specialized laboratory units, which include:

1. Molecular Diagnostics Unit – Specializing in genetic testing and advanced molecular analysis.
2. Clinical Microbiology Unit – Focused on identifying pathogens and supporting treatment for infectious diseases.
3. Hematology Unit – Analyzing blood components to diagnose blood disorders and abnormalities.
4. Immunology Unit – Conducting tests related to immune system disorders and infectious diseases.
5. Clinical Chemistry Unit – Assessing chemical balances in the body for organ function analysis.
6. Blood Bank Unit – Providing safe and compatible blood for transfusions.
7. Microscopy Diagnostics Unit – Utilizing microscopy for cellular and tissue analysis.

The discussions highlighted the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing medical diagnostics and improving patient outcomes. 

Forging Global Alliances

In her remarks, Dr. Sheree Bailey praised the lab’s dedication to innovation and its commitment to international collaboration. “The team here at Srinagarind Hospital demonstrates exceptional expertise and a forward-thinking approach to medical diagnostics. It’s truly inspiring to witness their efforts in bridging global partnerships for the benefit of patient care,” she noted.

Meanwhile, Mr. Prachuap Chaimanee expressed his enthusiasm for future collaborations. “This visit is more than just an exchange of ideas—it is a foundation for long-term partnerships. Together, we can pioneer advancements in diagnostic technology and make a meaningful impact in global healthcare.” 

A Model for Excellence

The lab’s leadership team, under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Kacharin Poonikorn, Deputy Director of Medical Services at Srinagarind Hospital, continues to push boundaries in innovation and academic excellence. The lab’s focus on sustainability and international collaboration underscores its role as a cornerstone in the region’s medical advancements.

This landmark visit sets the stage for future collaborations between the University of South Australia and Srinagarind Hospital. Both institutions aim to jointly develop cutting-edge diagnostic tools, expand research initiatives, and create training programs that equip medical professionals with the skills to tackle the healthcare challenges of tomorrow.

ห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร รพ.ศรีนครินทร์ ต้อนรับคณะผู้เชี่ยวชาญระดับโลกจากออสเตรเลีย

เมื่อวันที่ 27 พฤศจิกายน 2567 ที่ผ่านมา ห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้รับเกียรติในการต้อนรับคณะผู้เชี่ยวชาญจาก University of South Australia นำโดย Dr. Sheree Bailey ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้าน Flow Cytometry และหัวหน้าโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนความร่วมมือทางวิชาการ พร้อมทีมงานซึ่งประกอบด้วย Ms. Amanda Ivett, Ms. Amy Kita, Mr. Nicholas Kellermann, และ Mr. Phat Tai Vo ในโอกาสเยี่ยมชมและแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ด้านเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตรระดับสากล

ความร่วมมือที่สร้างแรงบันดาลใจ

การมาเยือนครั้งนี้ได้รับการต้อนรับอย่างอบอุ่นจากทีมผู้บริหารและบุคลากรชั้นนำของห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร นำโดย นายประจวบ ชัยมณี รองหัวหน้างานห้องปฏิบัติการ และหัวหน้าหน่วยชีวโมเลกุลวินิจฉัย ซึ่งเป็นหน่วยงานสำคัญที่นำเทคโนโลยีระดับโมเลกุลมาประยุกต์ใช้ในการวินิจฉัยโรคที่ซับซ้อน เช่น โรคมะเร็งและโรคพันธุกรรม

นอกจากนี้ ยังมี นางสาวแววตา คู่วัจนกุล หัวหน้าหน่วยจุลชีววิทยาคลินิก ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการวิเคราะห์เชื้อจุลชีพในห้องปฏิบัติการ และ นางสาวพิมใจ อนันตา หัวหน้าหน่วยบริหารสิ่งส่งตรวจ ซึ่งดูแลการจัดการตัวอย่างทางการแพทย์ด้วยความแม่นยำและรวดเร็ว ร่วมให้การต้อนรับอย่างเป็นกันเอง

กิจกรรมเพื่อความร่วมมือระดับสากล

ภายใต้การมาเยือนครั้งนี้ คณะผู้เชี่ยวชาญจากออสเตรเลียได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมสำคัญ เช่น การเยี่ยมชมกระบวนการทำงานในห้องปฏิบัติการ พร้อมแลกเปลี่ยนแนวคิดและประสบการณ์ในหัวข้อสำคัญด้าน Flow Cytometry ซึ่งถือเป็นเทคโนโลยีล้ำสมัยที่ช่วยในการวิเคราะห์เซลล์ในระดับโมเลกุล โดยเฉพาะในด้านโลหิตวิทยาและการรักษาโรคมะเร็ง

นอกจากนี้ คณะยังได้สัมผัสถึงความพร้อมและศักยภาพของทีมงานห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ ทั้งในด้านการวิจัย การพัฒนาบุคลากร และการสร้างมาตรฐานการให้บริการที่เทียบเท่าสากล โดยกิจกรรมนี้ถือเป็นก้าวสำคัญที่สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความตั้งใจในการพัฒนาความร่วมมือทางวิชาการระหว่างประเทศไทยและออสเตรเลีย

ห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ เป็นหนึ่งในหน่วยงานสำคัญของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญใน 7 หน่วยงานย่อย ได้แก่ หน่วยชีวโมเลกุลวินิจฉัย หน่วยจุลชีววิทยาคลินิก หน่วยโลหิตวิทยา หน่วยภูมิคุ้มกันวิทยา หน่วยเคมีคลินิก หน่วยธนาคารเลือด และหน่วยจุลทรรศน์วินิจฉัย โดยมีการนำเทคโนโลยีที่ทันสมัยมาประยุกต์ใช้ในทุกขั้นตอนเพื่อการวินิจฉัยที่แม่นยำและรวดเร็ว

อนาคตที่สดใสของความร่วมมือ

การมาเยือนในครั้งนี้ถือเป็นก้าวสำคัญที่ช่วยเสริมสร้างความร่วมมือทางการแพทย์ระหว่างไทยและออสเตรเลีย โดย Dr. Sheree Bailey กล่าวชื่นชมถึงศักยภาพและความมุ่งมั่นของบุคลากรห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร พร้อมย้ำถึงความสำคัญของการวิจัยและพัฒนาร่วมกันเพื่อยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ป่วย
