27 November 2024, Khon Kaen, Thailand – The Clinical Laboratory at Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, extended a warm welcome to an esteemed delegation of experts from the University of South Australia. Led by Dr. Sheree Bailey, a globally recognized authority in Flow Cytometry, the delegation comprised Ms. Amanda Ivett, Ms. Amy Kita, Mr. Nicholas Kellermann, and Mr. Phat Tai Vo. This visit marks a significant step forward in fostering international collaboration and knowledge-sharing in medical science. 

 

 

 

A Meeting of Minds Across Borders

The Australian delegation was met with heartfelt hospitality by prominent leaders from Srinagarind Hospital’s Clinical Laboratory, including Mr. Prachuap Chaimanee, Deputy Head of the Clinical Laboratory and Head of the Molecular Diagnostics Unit. Known for spearheading innovative approaches in genetic testing and molecular diagnostics, Mr. Prachuap emphasized the importance of cutting-edge technology in addressing modern medical challenges.

Accompanying him were Ms. Waewta Kuwatchanakul, Head of the Clinical Microbiology Unit, and Ms. Pimjai Ananta, Head of the Specimen Management Unit. Both leaders are highly respected in their fields, with Ms. Waewta specializing in microbial diagnostics for infectious diseases and Ms. Pimjai overseeing efficient and precise management of medical specimens. Together, these leaders provided the Australian delegation with a comprehensive introduction to the lab’s state-of-the-art facilities and services. 

 

 

Bridging Innovations in Medical Diagnostics

The visit centered around knowledge exchange and collaborative discussions on advanced diagnostic technologies, particularly Flow Cytometry—a revolutionary tool for analyzing cell characteristics at the molecular level. Dr. Bailey, who has extensive experience in clinical and research flow cytometry, shared insights into its application in hematology and oncology, particularly in diagnosing and monitoring leukemia and lymphoma.

The delegation toured Srinagarind Hospital’s seven specialized laboratory units, which include:

  1. Molecular Diagnostics Unit – Specializing in genetic testing and advanced molecular analysis.
  2. Clinical Microbiology Unit – Focused on identifying pathogens and supporting treatment for infectious diseases.
  3. Hematology Unit – Analyzing blood components to diagnose blood disorders and abnormalities.
  4. Immunology Unit – Conducting tests related to immune system disorders and infectious diseases.
  5. Clinical Chemistry Unit – Assessing chemical balances in the body for organ function analysis.
  6. Blood Bank Unit – Providing safe and compatible blood for transfusions.
  7. Microscopy Diagnostics Unit – Utilizing microscopy for cellular and tissue analysis.

The discussions highlighted the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing medical diagnostics and improving patient outcomes.

เมื่อวันที่ 27 พฤศจิกายน 2567 ที่ผ่านมา ห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้รับเกียรติในการต้อนรับคณะผู้เชี่ยวชาญจาก University of South Australia นำโดย Dr. Sheree Bailey ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้าน Flow Cytometry และหัวหน้าโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนความร่วมมือทางวิชาการ พร้อมทีมงานซึ่งประกอบด้วย Ms. Amanda Ivett, Ms. Amy Kita, Mr. Nicholas Kellermann, และ Mr. Phat Tai Vo ในโอกาสเยี่ยมชมและแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ด้านเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตรระดับสากล

การมาเยือนครั้งนี้ได้รับการต้อนรับอย่างอบอุ่นจากทีมผู้บริหารและบุคลากรชั้นนำของห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร นำโดย นายประจวบ ชัยมณี รองหัวหน้างานห้องปฏิบัติการ และหัวหน้าหน่วยชีวโมเลกุลวินิจฉัย ซึ่งเป็นหน่วยงานสำคัญที่นำเทคโนโลยีระดับโมเลกุลมาประยุกต์ใช้ในการวินิจฉัยโรคที่ซับซ้อน เช่น โรคมะเร็งและโรคพันธุกรรม

นอกจากนี้ ยังมี นางสาวแววตา คู่วัจนกุล หัวหน้าหน่วยจุลชีววิทยาคลินิก ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการวิเคราะห์เชื้อจุลชีพในห้องปฏิบัติการ และ นางสาวพิมใจ อนันตา หัวหน้าหน่วยบริหารสิ่งส่งตรวจ ซึ่งดูแลการจัดการตัวอย่างทางการแพทย์ด้วยความแม่นยำและรวดเร็ว ร่วมให้การต้อนรับอย่างเป็นกันเอง

กิจกรรมเพื่อความร่วมมือระดับสากล

ภายใต้การมาเยือนครั้งนี้ คณะผู้เชี่ยวชาญจากออสเตรเลียได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมสำคัญ เช่น การเยี่ยมชมกระบวนการทำงานในห้องปฏิบัติการ พร้อมแลกเปลี่ยนแนวคิดและประสบการณ์ในหัวข้อสำคัญด้าน Flow Cytometry ซึ่งถือเป็นเทคโนโลยีล้ำสมัยที่ช่วยในการวิเคราะห์เซลล์ในระดับโมเลกุล โดยเฉพาะในด้านโลหิตวิทยาและการรักษาโรคมะเร็ง

นอกจากนี้ คณะยังได้สัมผัสถึงความพร้อมและศักยภาพของทีมงานห้องปฏิบัติการเวชศาสตร์ชันสูตร โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ ทั้งในด้านการวิจัย การพัฒนาบุคลากร และการสร้างมาตรฐานการให้บริการที่เทียบเท่าสากล โดยกิจกรรมนี้ถือเป็นก้าวสำคัญที่สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความตั้งใจในการพัฒนาความร่วมมือทางวิชาการระหว่างประเทศไทยและออสเตรเลีย

Pathologists Participate in Academic Exchange Program at Cleveland Clinic, USA

 

Dr. Dollaya Santisathaporn and Dr. Napapat Paopun, third-year pathology residents at the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, participated in an observership program at Department of Pathology, Diagnostics institute, Cleveland Clinic, USA, from September 30 to October 25, 2024, for a total of four weeks.

This program aims to enhance knowledge and experience in the field of pathology at an international level, focusing on studying advanced practices, utilizing cutting-edge medical technologies, and applying acquired knowledge to improve teaching, learning, and research in Thailand.

Cleveland Clinic is a globally recognized medical institution renowned for its expertise in various fields, particularly in pathology. This academic exchange marks a significant milestone in fostering international collaboration in pathology and advancing the progress of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.

พญ. ดลยา สันติสถาพร และ พญ. ณภาภัช เผ่าพันธุ์ แพทย์ประจำบ้านชั้นปีที่ 3 สาขาวิชาพยาธิวิทยา คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้เข้าร่วม โครงการแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ทางวิชาการ ณ Department of Pathology, Diagnostics institute, Cleveland Clinic, USA ระหว่างวันที่ 30 กันยายน – 25 ตุลาคม 2567 รวมระยะเวลา 4 สัปดาห์

โครงการนี้มีเป้าหมายเพื่อพัฒนาความรู้และประสบการณ์ด้านพยาธิวิทยาในระดับสากล โดยเน้นการศึกษาแนวทางปฏิบัติที่ทันสมัย การใช้เทคโนโลยีทางการแพทย์ที่ก้าวหน้า และการประยุกต์ความรู้ที่ได้รับมาใช้ในการพัฒนาการเรียนการสอน รวมถึงการวิจัยในประเทศไทย

In a remarkable step towards strengthening medical and digital health collaborations, Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine welcomed Ms. Esther Sun, the Australian Trade and Investment Commissioner to Thailand, and Ms. Busarin Sinthunavarat, Senior Manager of Business Development at Austrade, for an insightful visit focused on advancing healthcare innovation. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Narongrit Kasemsap, Director of the Special Medical Center, who played a key role in facilitating the visit.

 

 

Khon Kaen Medical Hub: A Hub of Cutting-Edge Healthcare

One of the highlights of the visit was the Khon Kaen Medical Hub Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming Khon Kaen into a regional medical center within ASEAN. The project emphasizes enhancing medical service quality, strengthening healthcare professionals’ capabilities, and implementing state-of-the-art technologies. Ms. Sun and Ms. Busarin exchanged knowledge about Australia’s cutting-edge advancements in Digital Health, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) for disease diagnosis, digital patient management systems, and personalized medicine.

The collaboration between Khon Kaen University and global partners like AstraZeneca and the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) has resulted in pioneering AI technologies, particularly in early disease detection. Notable AI innovations discussed included screening tools for heart failure and lung cancer, which have dramatically increased diagnostic accuracy, reduced time to diagnosis, and enhanced timely patient treatment. Additionally, the university has developed AI-driven diagnostic tools to detect hip fractures from X-ray images, further improving diagnostic efficiency.

A Visit to Srinagarind Hospital: A Showcase of Medical Innovation

The delegation was also given a tour of Srinagarind Hospital, one of Thailand’s leading tertiary care hospitals. The hospital demonstrated its use of robotic surgery to perform complex procedures with precision and telemedicine technologies, enabling healthcare delivery to remote regions with limited access to specialist doctors. These innovations have revolutionized the delivery of healthcare, particularly for patients in underserved areas.

 

 

The delegation also visited the Cell Therapy Center, where Asst. Prof. Dr. Viyada Panjarak, Director of the Center, shared the center’s groundbreaking research on stem cell therapy. Dr. Panjarak explained the center’s efforts to develop stem cells for treating chronic and complex diseases such as leukemia and immune system disorders. As a regional leader in stem cell therapy, the center is contributing significantly to the development of innovative treatments that could reshape the future of healthcare.

AI for Healthcare: Advancing Thailand’s Medical Digital Future

Khon Kaen University is at the forefront of digital health innovation. The university is not only developing advanced AI for healthcare but also offering courses like the “Introduction to AI in Healthcare” program through the KKU Academy, which is helping equip healthcare professionals with essential skills for effectively implementing AI in medical practice. การร่วมมือระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นกับพันธมิตรระดับโลกอย่าง แอสตร้าเซนเนก้า และ สำนักงานส่งเสริมเศรษฐกิจดิจิทัล (depa) ได้สร้างนวัตกรรมทางการแพทย์ที่ใช้ AI เพื่อช่วยในการคัดกรองโรคหัวใจล้มเหลวและมะเร็งปอดในระยะเริ่มต้น เพิ่มความแม่นยำ ลดระยะเวลาในการวินิจฉัย และเพิ่มโอกาสในการรักษาผู้ป่วยให้ทันท่วงที นอกจากนี้ยังมีการพัฒนา AI เพื่อตรวจจับกระดูกสะโพกหักจากภาพเอกซเรย์ ซึ่งช่วยเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในการตรวจวินิจฉัย

การเยี่ยมชมโรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์: ศูนย์กลางนวัตกรรมการแพทย์

คณะผู้แทนได้เยี่ยมชม โรงพยาบาลศรีนครินทร์ หนึ่งในโรงพยาบาลชั้นนำของประเทศ ซึ่งได้มีการนำเสนอเทคโนโลยีการแพทย์ที่ล้ำสมัย เช่น หุ่นยนต์ช่วยในการผ่าตัด และ ระบบ Telemedicine ซึ่งสามารถให้บริการผู้ป่วยในพื้นที่ห่างไกลที่มีจำนวนแพทย์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจำกัด การใช้เทคโนโลยีเหล่านี้ช่วยให้การดูแลผู้ป่วยมีความแม่นยำและรวดเร็วยิ่งขึ้น

คณะผู้แทนยังได้เยี่ยมชม ศูนย์เซลล์บำบัด โดย ผศ.ดร.วิยะดา ปัญจะรักษ์ ผู้อำนวยการศูนย์เซลล์บำบัด ซึ่งได้พัฒนาการใช้ เซลล์ต้นกำเนิด ในการรักษาโรคเรื้อรังและโรคซับซ้อน เช่น มะเร็งเม็ดเลือด และโรคที่เกี่ยวกับระบบภูมิคุ้มกัน โดยศูนย์แห่งนี้เป็นผู้นำในภูมิภาคในด้านการวิจัยและพัฒนาการบำบัดด้วยเซลล์

การพัฒนา AI ในการแพทย์: ก้าวสู่อนาคตของการแพทย์ดิจิทัลในประเทศไทย

มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นได้ทุ่มเทในการพัฒนาเทคโนโลยี AI เพื่อยกระดับการดูแลสุขภาพของประชาชน โดยเปิดหลักสูตร “Introduction to AI in Healthcare” ผ่าน KKU Academy เพื่อเสริมสร้างทักษะให้แก่บุคลากรทางการแพทย์ในการใช้เทคโนโลยี AI อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ โดยมีเป้าหมายเพื่อสร้างมาตรฐานการดูแลสุขภาพที่ดียิ่งขึ้นในประเทศไทยและยกระดับสู่เวทีโลก

Khon Kaen University Welcomes Bhutanese Doctor, Highlighting Role as a Hub for International Medical Training

 

The Department of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, welcomed Dr. Tashi Dorji, Senior Medical Officer from Gidakom Hospital in Thimphu, Bhutan, to its Residency Training Program in Anatomic Pathology. Funded by the Bhutanese government, the three-year program runs from November 15, 2024, to November 15, 2027.

 

 

This program is part of Thailand’s Visiting Doctor Initiative, organized by the Medical Council of Thailand, aiming to enhance medical expertise and foster international collaboration. Khon Kaen University is recognized as a key center for international medical training in the region, with a vision of becoming a global leader in medical education, research, and healthcare services.

สาขาวิชาพยาธิวิทยา คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ได้ต้อนรับ Dr. Tashi Dorji แพทย์อาวุโสจากโรงพยาบาล Gidakom กรุงทิมพู ราชอาณาจักรภูฏาน ซึ่งได้รับทุนสนับสนุนจากรัฐบาลภูฏาน เพื่อเข้าร่วมหลักสูตรการฝึกอบรมแพทย์ประจำบ้าน สาขาพยาธิวิทยากายวิภาค (Residency Training in Anatomic Pathology) เป็นระยะเวลา 3 ปี ตั้งแต่วันที่ 15 พฤศจิกายน 2567 ถึง 15 พฤศจิกายน 2570

孔敬大学医学院病理学系欢迎来自不丹廷布吉达康医院的高级医师塔希·多吉博士加入解剖病理学住院医师培训项目。塔希博士由不丹政府资助，将参加为期三年的培训，从2024年11月15日持续至2027年11月15日。

此次项目隶属于泰国医师协会的 国际医生培训计划（แพทย์วิเทศ），旨在提升医学专业知识并促进国际合作。孔敬大学以其作为区域国际医学培训中心的地位而闻名，其愿景是成为全球医学教育、研究和医疗服务的领导者。

Academic Collaboration Agreement Signed Between Chulalongkorn University, Khon Kaen University, and University of California, San Francisco

 

On November 13, 2024, a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between three leading institutions: Chulalongkorn University, Khon Kaen University, and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). This MOU aims to foster academic collaboration in ophthalmology, research, and education, marking a significant milestone in medical advancements between Thailand and the United States. The signing ceremony took place at the 52nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand, held at Centara Grand Bangkok, under the theme “Together Better Vision.”

Representatives from each university attended the event, including Prof. Wasee Tulvatana from Chulalongkorn University, Assoc. Prof. Tanapat Ratanapakorn from Khon Kaen University, and Assoc. Prof. John Gonzales from UCSF. Each representative is a prominent figure in ophthalmology and has made substantial contributions to medical research and patient care. The signing of this MOU demonstrates the commitment of all three universities to connect their research efforts, enhance medical expertise in ophthalmology, and create a global network for educational and research excellence.

 

 

This academic partnership focuses on developing joint research projects, faculty and student exchange programs, and specialized training sessions. These initiatives aim to facilitate knowledge transfer and equip medical personnel with the skills and expertise needed to excel in the field of ophthalmology. This collaboration will also offer Thai and American students opportunities to gain hands-on experience in real-world clinical environments in both countries, preparing them for successful international careers.

Assoc. Prof. Tanapat Ratanapakorn from Khon Kaen University expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration will elevate the quality of education and research in ophthalmology for Thai medical students. Furthermore, it provides a platform for Thai researchers to participate in high-standard international projects, which will benefit the country’s public health system in the long term.”

Prof. Wasee Tulvatana from Chulalongkorn University shared similar sentiments, adding, “We are honored to work alongside leading institutions like UCSF and Khon Kaen University. This partnership will allow us to share advanced treatment methods and knowledge with the Thai ophthalmology community, strengthening research capabilities in the Southeast Asian region.”

Assoc. Prof. John Gonzales from UCSF highlighted the importance of this academic linkage, saying, “Collaborating on research and exchanging faculty members with Thailand will help our field grow and allow us to learn from one another. การลงนามบันทึกความร่วมมือทางวิชาการระหว่างจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น และมหาวิทยาลัยแคลิฟอร์เนีย ซานฟรานซิสโก

วันที่ 13 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2567 สาขาวิชาจักษุวิทยาจากสามสถาบันชั้นนำ ได้แก่ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น และมหาวิทยาลัยแคลิฟอร์เนีย ซานฟรานซิสโก (UCSF) ได้ร่วมลงนามในบันทึกความเข้าใจ (MOU) เพื่อสร้างความร่วมมือในการพัฒนางานวิชาการ การศึกษา และการวิจัยด้านจักษุวิทยา พิธีลงนามนี้จัดขึ้นภายในงานประชุมวิชาการครั้งที่ 52 ของราชวิทยาลัยจักษุแพทย์แห่งประเทศไทย ณ โรงแรมเซ็นทารา แกรนด์ กรุงเทพฯ ภายใต้แนวคิด “Together Better Vision” ซึ่งมีวัตถุประสงค์ในการยกระดับความรู้และนวัตกรรมด้านการรักษาสายตา และส่งเสริมการแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ทางวิชาการระหว่างประเทศไทยและสหรัฐอเมริกา

การลงนามในครั้งนี้มีผู้แทนจากแต่ละสถาบันเข้าร่วมอย่างเป็นทางการ ได้แก่ ศ.พญ. วสี ตุลวรรธนะ ผู้แทนจากจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย รศ.ธนภัทร รัตนภากร จากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น และ Assoc. Prof. John Gonzales จาก UCSF ซึ่งทั้งสามคนเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านจักษุวิทยาที่มีชื่อเสียงและมีบทบาทสำคัญในวงการวิจัยและการแพทย์ การลงนามในบันทึกความร่วมมือครั้งนี้แสดงให้เห็นถึงความมุ่งมั่นของทั้งสามมหาวิทยาลัยในการเชื่อมโยงการวิจัยและพัฒนาความสามารถในการดูแลรักษาผู้ป่วยด้านจักษุวิทยา รวมทั้งสร้างเครือข่ายการศึกษาและวิจัยระดับนานาชาติ

ความร่วมมือทางวิชาการนี้จะเน้นไปที่การพัฒนาโครงการวิจัยร่วมกัน การแลกเปลี่ยนบุคลากรและนักศึกษา รวมถึงการจัดอบรมเชิงปฏิบัติการสำหรับแพทย์และนักวิจัย เพื่อให้เกิดการถ่ายทอดความรู้และทักษะทางการแพทย์ที่จำเป็นในการพัฒนาศักยภาพบุคลากรในสาขาจักษุวิทยา โครงการที่กำลังจะเกิดขึ้นนี้มีเป้าหมายในการเสริมสร้างความเข้มแข็งให้กับนักวิจัยและแพทย์เฉพาะทาง ให้มีความรู้และความสามารถในการดูแลรักษาผู้ป่วยด้วยมาตรฐานสากล และเปิดโอกาสให้นักศึกษาได้เรียนรู้ประสบการณ์ตรงในสถานการณ์จริงจากทั้งสองประเทศ

รศ.ธนภัทร รัตนภากร ผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น กล่าวว่า “ความร่วมมือในครั้งนี้จะช่วยยกระดับคุณภาพการศึกษาและวิจัยของนักศึกษาจักษุแพทย์ในประเทศไทย นอกจากนี้ ยังเป็นการเสริมสร้างศักยภาพของนักวิจัยไทยให้มีโอกาสเข้าร่วมโครงการที่มีมาตรฐานสูงระดับนานาชาติ ซึ่งเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการพัฒนาระบบสาธารณสุขของประเทศ”

ขณะที่ ศ.พญ. วสี ตุลวรรธนะจากจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ได้กล่าวว่า “เรารู้สึกยินดีที่ได้ร่วมงานกับมหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำอย่าง UCSF และมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ความร่วมมือนี้จะทำให้เรามีโอกาสแบ่งปันความรู้และวิธีการรักษาที่ทันสมัยให้กับวงการจักษุแพทย์ไทย และเสริมสร้างความเข้มแข็งในด้านวิจัยในระดับภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้”

ในขณะเดียวกัน Assoc. Prof. John Gonzales จาก UCSF ได้กล่าวถึงความสำคัญของการเชื่อมโยงทางวิชาการระหว่างสถาบันว่า “การแลกเปลี่ยนบุคลากรและการพัฒนางานวิจัยร่วมกันกับประเทศไทย จะช่วยให้วงการจักษุแพทย์ของเราเติบโตและสามารถเรียนรู้จากกันและกันได้ เราหวังว่าความร่วมมือครั้งนี้จะสร้างผลลัพธ์ที่ยั่งยืนและเป็นประโยชน์ต่อผู้ป่วยและวงการวิชาการทั่วโลก”

The purpose of this visit was to explore the latest innovations in medical technology to advance the university’s Medical Hub project, which aims to become the one of the most advanced healthcare and treatment facility in Thailand, enhancing healthcare services nationwide.

MEDICA, the world’s largest and most influential medical technology fair, brought together global leaders, researchers, and innovators to showcase advancements across robotics, diagnostics, imaging, and health monitoring. These technologies are pivotal for Khon Kaen University’s Medical Hub project, which includes plans to increase the university hospital to a capacity of 2,000 beds — among the largest university hospital in Thailand.

โครงการ Medical Hub ของมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น

Medical Hub เป็นโครงการสำคัญที่จะเปลี่ยนแปลงวงการสุขภาพในประเทศไทย โดยมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นมุ่งเน้นให้เป็นโรงพยาบาลขนาดใหญ่ที่มีศักยภาพสูงสุด โดยจะมีจำนวนเตียงสูงถึง 2,000 เตียง รวมถึงศูนย์ความเป็นเลิศในสาขาต่าง ๆ เช่น การดูแลผู้ป่วยโรคมะเร็ง สุขภาพหัวใจ และการวินิจฉัยขั้นสูง การเยี่ยมชมงาน MEDICA ครั้งนี้ช่วยให้คณะผู้แทนได้ศึกษานวัตกรรมหลากหลายที่สามารถนำมาใช้ใน Medical Hub อาทิ

การเข้าร่วมงาน MEDICA ในครั้งนี้ถือเป็นก้าวสำคัญในการพัฒนาของมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นสู่การเป็นสถาบันแพทยศาสตร์และการวิจัยชั้นนำในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ด้วยจำนวนเตียงที่มากถึง 2,000 เตียงคณะแพทยศาสตร์ยังคงมุ่งมั่นที่จะพัฒนาคุณภาพการรักษาและผลลัพธ์ทางการแพทย์ พร้อมทั้งนำเทคโนโลยีชั้นสูงมาใช้ในการรักษาผู้ป่วยในประเทศ

ด้วยพันธกิจที่ชัดเจน คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ยืนยันที่จะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการผลักดันขีดความสามารถด้านการแพทย์ของประเทศไทยให้ก้าวสู่ระดับสากล โครงการ Medical Hub ที่กำลังก่อสร้างนี้คาดว่าจะเป็นทรัพยากรด้านสุขภาพที่สำคัญสำหรับประเทศไทยและภูมิภาคในอนาคต

 

Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine Expands Double Degree Program with Kumamoto University to Include Microbiology

 

Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine has strengthened its academic collaboration with Kumamoto University in Japan by expanding the Double Degree Program (DDP). Originally focused on Biochemistry, the DDP has been a resounding success, providing students with in-depth research training in a key scientific discipline. Building on this success, Khon Kaen University (KKU) has broadened the program to include Microbiology, a response to increasing interest from students and researchers keen to delve into this essential field of study.

 

 

 

The recent visit to Kumamoto University was led by Assistant Professor Dr. Raksawan Dinonpho, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs for Preclinical Graduate Studies. She was joined by Associate Professor Dr. Kulthida Wetivutacharn, Chair of the Biochemistry DDP, and Dr. Orasa Panawan, both from the Biochemistry Department. Representatives from the Microbiology Department included Associate Professor Dr. Supranee Phantanawiboon and Dr. Jakkrit Wechaiphum. During their visit, the delegation presented a newly updated graduate curriculum focused on advanced research in Microbiology and discussed opportunities for developing hands-on exchange programs. These programs aim to immerse students in real-world research environments, enhancing essential skills for international scientific research.

 

 

In addition to curriculum development, the KKU team met with several senior officials and renowned researchers from Kumamoto University. Notable attendees included Dr. Jun Otani, Executive Vice-President for University Reform, and Dr. Kazuhito Tomizawa, Executive Vice-President for Evaluation. The delegation also met with Prof. Seiji Okada, a JDP Program representative and expert in Human Retrovirus Infection; Prof. Hiroyuki Oshiumi, Chair of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences Education Committee in Immunology; and Prof. Wen-Jie Song, Vice Chair of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences Education Committee in Sensory and Cognitive Physiology. Discussions were also held with Associate Professor Satou from the Genomics and Transcriptomics field, Joint Research Center for Human Retrovirus Infection, who is planning collaborations with KKU’s Microbiology Department under the DDP. Associate Professor Shinriki, Head of Medical Oncology and Translational Research, also expressed interest in future partnerships.

The DDP in Biochemistry has already produced graduates recognized internationally for their outstanding research contributions, establishing itself as a model program. Extending the program to Microbiology will offer students valuable opportunities to acquire advanced research skills, preparing them for impactful careers in a global arena.

This partnership’s expansion highlights the commitment of both universities to provide students with access to resources and research standards of an international caliber. Moreover, the DDP network includes collaboration with other Thai institutions, such as Mahidol University, Chiang Mai University, and Prince of Songkla University, creating a strong regional alliance aimed at elevating research expertise in Southeast Asia.

The expanded DDP between KKU’s Faculty of Medicine and Kumamoto University signifies a crucial step toward equipping students and researchers with the skills needed for the future of science and medicine. This program is expected to play a vital role in fostering scientific and medical advancement, offering students in Thailand and Japan a pathway to gain hands-on experience in globally relevant fields and positioning them as key contributors to future innovations in science.

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น (มข.) ได้เสริมความร่วมมือทางวิชาการกับมหาวิทยาลัยคุมาโมโตะ ประเทศญี่ปุ่น โดยการขยายหลักสูตร Double Degree Program (DDP) ซึ่งเป็นหลักสูตรที่เน้นการพัฒนาศักยภาพนักศึกษาในการทำวิจัยเชิงลึกในสาขาวิชาที่สำคัญ โดยที่ผ่านมาโครงการนี้ประสบความสำเร็จในสาขาชีวเคมี และจากความสำเร็จดังกล่าว มข. ได้ขยายหลักสูตร DDP ให้ครอบคลุมถึงสาขาจุลชีววิทยา เพื่อตอบสนองความต้องการของนักศึกษาและนักวิจัยในปัจจุบันที่มีความสนใจในสาขานี้อย่างแพร่หลาย

การเดินทางเยือนมหาวิทยาลัยคุมาโมโตะครั้งนี้ นำโดย ผศ.ดร.สพ.ญ. รักษวรรณ ดีโนนโพธิ์ ผู้ช่วยฝ่ายวิชาการด้านบัณฑิตศึกษาปรีคลินิก รศ.ดร.พญ.กุลธิดา เวทีวุฒาจารย์ ประธานหลักสูตร DDP สาขาชีวเคมี และ อ.ดร.อรสา พนาวัน จากสาขาวิชาชีวเคมี ผศ.ดร.สุปราณี พันธุ์ธนวิบูลย์ และ อ.ดร.จักรกฤษ เหวชัยภูมิ จากสาขาวิชาจุลชีววิทยา คณะผู้แทนจาก มข. ได้นำเสนอหลักสูตรบัณฑิตศึกษาใหม่ที่เน้นการวิจัยเชิงลึกในสาขาจุลชีววิทยา พร้อมทั้งหารือแนวทางในการพัฒนาโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนเชิงปฏิบัติการ เพื่อให้นักศึกษาได้ทำงานร่วมกับนักวิจัยในสภาพแวดล้อมจริง เพื่อเสริมสร้างทักษะและประสบการณ์ที่จำเป็นในการก้าวสู่การทำวิจัยระดับโลก

Strengthening Global Medical Research and Innovation: The Visit of Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine to Heidelberg University

 

Heidelberg, Germany – November 8, 2024 – In a significant step toward advancing global health solutions, the Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University visited Heidelberg University to collaborate on groundbreaking research projects aimed at addressing global health challenges, particularly in Southeast Asia.

Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chanchai Pantongviriyakul, the President of Khon Kaen University, and Ambassador Surapon Petch-vra, the delegation included key executives and researchers from Khon Kaen University, such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pattarapong Makarawate, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Pope Kosalaraksa, Director of the Clinical Research Management Unit, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirirat Anutrakulchai, Vice Dean for Research and Innovation. The visit aimed to foster collaboration in medical research and innovations to tackle pressing health issues on a global scale.

 

 

Dr. Christine Neumann, an executive from Heidelberg University, welcomed the delegation and presented key research initiatives, including the PANDA (Preventing Pandemic Risk by Improving Pandemic Literacy Among Communities at the Frontline of Disease Emergence in Southeast Asia) and PANDASIA (Pandemic Literacy and Viral Zoonotic Spillover Risk at the Frontline of Disease Emergence in Southeast Asia to Improve Pandemic Preparedness) projects. Both initiatives focus on preparing Southeast Asia for future pandemics, emphasizing the region’s ongoing challenges with infectious diseases.

The PANDA project aims to enhance community knowledge in pandemic prevention, particularly in Southeast Asia, while the PANDASIA project focuses on improving medical preparedness for zoonotic diseases and mitigating the impact of environmental contaminants, such as plastics and heavy metals, which pose a serious health risk, especially to children.

During the visit, Professor Joachim Rocklöv, an expert in climate change and health, provided valuable insights into the health impacts of pollution and global warming, particularly for children living in high-risk areas.

In addition to the research discussions, the Khon Kaen University delegation presented their own significant research findings. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pattarapong Makarawate shared research on Brugada Syndrome, a heart condition prevalent in Asia, focusing on its causes and potential treatments to reduce mortality rates in Thailand. Prof. Dr. Pope Kosalaraksa presented work on the development of a vaccine to combat dengue fever, a major health issue in Thailand, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sirirat Anutrakulchai shared findings on the health impacts of PM2.5 particulate matter and its connection to chronic kidney disease in Thailand.

The delegation also met with Prof. Dr. Till Bärnighausen, Director of the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, to discuss collaboration opportunities in health economics research, which will support global health policy development.

As part of their visit, the Khon Kaen University team toured the Heidelberg University Hospital, Germany’s largest pediatric hospital, and gained insights into advanced genetic and congenital heart disease treatments, including the use of gene therapy for spinal muscular atrophy.

This visit highlights Khon Kaen University’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and advancing medical research to tackle global health challenges, laying the foundation for sustainable, innovative solutions in the years to come.

 

 

 

การเยือนมหาวิทยาลัยไฮเดลเบิร์กของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เสริมสร้างความร่วมมือด้านการวิจัยและนวัตกรรมการแพทย์ระดับโลก

การประชุมครั้งนี้ได้รับเกียรติจาก Professor Joachim Rocklöv ผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการเปลี่ยนแปลงสภาพภูมิอากาศและสุขภาพ มาให้ข้อมูลเชิงลึกเกี่ยวกับผลกระทบจากมลภาวะและภาวะโลกร้อนที่มีต่อสุขภาพมนุษย์ โดยเฉพาะในกลุ่มเด็กที่อาศัยอยู่ในพื้นที่เสี่ยงสูง

ในส่วนของการแลกเปลี่ยนผลงานวิจัย คณะผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นได้มีโอกาสนำเสนอผลงานสำคัญ โดย รองศาสตราจารย์ นพ.ภัทรพงษ์ มกรเวส ได้นำเสนอการวิจัยเกี่ยวกับ Brugada Syndrome ซึ่งเป็นโรคหัวใจที่พบได้มากในประชากรเอเชีย โดยมุ่งเน้นการศึกษาสาเหตุและการรักษาโรคดังกล่าวเพื่อช่วยลดอัตราการเสียชีวิตในประเทศไทย นอกจากนี้ยังได้มีการอธิบายถึงผลกระทบจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงของอุณหภูมิที่สูงขึ้นต่ออัตราการเกิดโรคนี้

ศาสตราจารย์ นพ.ภพ โกศลารักษ์ ได้นำเสนอผลงานวิจัยเกี่ยวกับการพัฒนาวัคซีนป้องกันโรคไข้เลือดออกในประเทศไทย ซึ่งเป็นปัญหาสุขภาพสำคัญที่ยังคงท้าทายในประเทศที่มีการแพร่ระบาดอย่างต่อเนื่อง ขณะที่ รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร. พญ.ศิริรัตน์ อนุตระกูลชัย ได้นำเสนอผลการศึกษาผลกระทบของฝุ่นละออง PM2.5 ที่มีต่อการเกิดโรคไตเรื้อรัง โดยเน้นถึงผลกระทบจากมลภาวะทางอากาศและโลหะหนักในสิ่งแวดล้อมที่ส่งผลต่อสุขภาพของคนไทย

คณะผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นยังได้พบกับ Prof. Dr. Till Bärnighausen ผู้อำนวยการ Heidelberg Institute of Global Health เพื่อหารือเกี่ยวกับการร่วมมือด้านเศรษฐศาสตร์สาธารณสุขและการฝึกอบรมด้าน health economics ซึ่งจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อการพัฒนาแนวทางวิจัยด้านสุขภาพระดับสากล

นอกจากนี้ คณะผู้แทนได้เยี่ยมชม Heidelberg University Hospital ซึ่งเป็นโรงพยาบาลเด็กขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในเยอรมนี และได้ศึกษาดูงานด้านการรักษาโรคทางพันธุกรรมและโรคหัวใจพิการแต่กำเนิดที่ได้รับการบำบัดด้วยวิธีการทันสมัย เช่น gene therapy ในการรักษาผู้ป่วยโรค spinal muscular atrophy

การเยือนครั้งนี้สะท้อนถึงความตั้งใจของคณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น ในการพัฒนาความร่วมมือกับสถาบันการศึกษาระดับโลก และเป็นก้าวสำคัญในการสร้างเครือข่ายความร่วมมือระดับสากลเพื่อพัฒนาแนวทางการแก้ไขปัญหาสุขภาพให้ยั่งยืนในอนาคต

 

Keio University Opens Doors for Khon Kaen University Faculty of Medicine Students and Staff for Exchange Program

 

On November 12, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Thuss Sanguansak, Associate Dean for International Relations and Corporate Communications, and Associate Professor Dr. Warachaya Phanphruk, Assistant Dean for International Relations and Corporate Communications, visited Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan. The visit was warmly welcomed by esteemed faculty from Keio University, including Professor Hiroshi Tanaka, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Dr. Yukiko Sato, Head of the International Office. This meeting marked an important step in furthering academic cooperation and exchange between the two institutions.

Keio University has expressed a strong commitment to fostering international exchange and has officially opened its doors to students and medical personnel from Khon Kaen University for participation in the exchange program. This initiative aims to encourage mutual learning and the sharing of medical expertise, as well as to support the development of healthcare professionals in a global context. This experience provided valuable insights into Japan’s advanced healthcare systems, specifically in pharmacy practices, and offered an opportunity for exchanging ideas and methodologies. This interaction allows Khon Kaen University to integrate new approaches and insights into its own programs, enhancing the quality of education and patient care.

Both institutions have expressed enthusiasm for deepening their collaboration through student and staff exchanges. By establishing strong ties, they aim to create a bridge for knowledge transfer, cultural exchange, and professional development, benefiting both Thai and Japanese healthcare systems.

มหาวิทยาลัยเคโอะได้ยืนยันถึงความตั้งใจในการรับนักศึกษาและบุคลากรจากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นเข้าร่วมโครงการแลกเปลี่ยน โดยมีเป้าหมายเพื่อส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้ร่วมกันและการแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ในวงการแพทย์ ซึ่งจะเป็นการพัฒนาบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ในระดับนานาชาติ การเปิดโอกาสให้บุคลากรและนักศึกษาจากขอนแก่นได้สัมผัสกับระบบการดูแลสุขภาพของญี่ปุ่นจะช่วยเสริมสร้างความร่วมมือที่แน่นแฟ้นระหว่างทั้งสองสถาบัน

นอกจากนี้ คณะผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นยังได้เยี่ยมชมแผนกเภสัชกรรมของโรงพยาบาลมหาวิทยาลัยเคโอะ โดยมีศาสตราจารย์ ริกะ นากามูระ หัวหน้าแผนกเภสัชกรรมเป็นผู้นำชม ซึ่งทำให้ได้เห็นถึงแนวทางการปฏิบัติด้านเภสัชกรรมที่ทันสมัยของญี่ปุ่น และเป็นโอกาสแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้และแนวคิดที่สามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ในประเทศไทย เพื่อพัฒนาคุณภาพการศึกษาและการดูแลผู้ป่วย

ทั้งสองสถาบันต่างแสดงความตั้งใจที่จะพัฒนาความร่วมมือในเชิงลึกผ่านการแลกเปลี่ยนนักศึกษาและบุคลากร เพื่อสร้างความรู้ การแลกเปลี่ยนวัฒนธรรม และการพัฒนาวิชาชีพ ซึ่งจะส่งผลดีต่อระบบการแพทย์ของทั้งประเทศไทยและญี่ปุ่น

คณะแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นมองว่าความร่วมมือครั้งนี้เป็นโอกาสสำคัญในการยกระดับคุณภาพการศึกษาและขยายมุมมองระดับโลกให้กับนักศึกษาและคณาจารย์ ผ่านโครงการแลกเปลี่ยนนี้ ผู้เข้าร่วมจะได้รับประสบการณ์และทักษะที่มีคุณค่าในสภาพแวดล้อมทางการแพทย์นานาชาติ ซึ่งจะช่วยส่งเสริมให้พวกเขาพร้อมที่จะเผชิญความท้าทายในโลกที่เชื่อมโยงถึงกัน
