His Excellency the Cuban Ambassador visits and gives a short lecture

 

On October 10, 2019 H.E. Mr. Hector Conde Almetda, Ambassador, the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba to the kingdom of Thailand, visited Khon Kaen University for the purpose of building up a friendship with Khon Kaen University. During his visit on the first day we took him for a tour of our university, and later in the afternoon he gave a lecture “Cuba and Thai-Cuba relations” at the faculty of Humanity and Social Sciences. On the morning of the second day we had an official welcoming ceremony hosted by the President and the Vice President of Khon Kaen University. After the lunch hosted by Khon Kaen University, he visited the Faculty of Medicine and gave a lecture about “the Cuban Health System”. The Cuban health system is deemed to be one of the best health systems and the faculty of medicine hope to learn something to adapt to the Thai health system.

Faculty of Medicine Former Executive Administrator gain international recognition

 

On 20 September 2019 Professor Pisake Lumbiganon, previous dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, had received certificate of recognition from Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in United Kingdom. This news bring happiness to all of staff in the faculty of medicine. While Professor Pisake Lumbiganon was working as dean for the faculty of medicine, Khon Kaen University, he was loved by all the administrator and staff member so seeing him successful also bring happiness to us all.

New Exchange students arrive in Khon Kaen

 

On August 4, 2019, we welcomed a new batch of elective exchange students. This time there are 5 students from 4 countries namely Austria, Romania, Slovenia, and the USA. In the morning we gave them a basic orientation and introduction to our culture in Mae Kong Meeting room, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University and showed them around the Faculty. Then we took them to have lunch before taking them to Srinagarind Museum to learn about the founding of Srinagarind Hospital. Finally, we took them sightseeing in Khon Kaen before bringing them back. Now that we have shown them the basic knowledge that they need we hope that they will have a pleasant experience staying here.

 

Exchange students’ graduation reports

 

On July 26, 2019 a batch of exchange students graduated and returned to their university. But before they departed, they came to present their reports about their experiences while they were here. This batch of students included 2 Polish students, 1 Russian student, 1 American student and 1 Spanish student. Although they enrolled in different departments of the Faculty of Medicine, they were still able to connect with each other and make friends. Each one of them also found a unique experience in their field of study that they could not find at their own university. On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine I hope that they will find success in their future and hopefully we will have the opportunity to meet again in the future.

 

Faculty of Medicine Lecturer Just got Recognition

 

Great news for the Faculty of Medicine and Khon Kaen University, another individual had contribute as a reviewer for one of the science publisher and got the certificate of recognition for it. Dr. Patorn Piromchai, MD, MSc, PhD, FRCOT, FICS, a lecturer and specialist, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for services as an Outstanding Reviewer for Bentham Science Publisher.

Visit to Naresuan University for Cooperation Discussion

 

On 12 July, 2019 Dr. Farsinee Arunrojpanya, Associate Dean of International Affairs and Language Development and staff from Naresuan University welcomed Assoc. Prof. Supat Sinawat,   Associate Dean for International Relations and Cooperation Strategies, Faculty of Medicine,  Khon Kaen University  and his staff during their study visit to Naresuan University, Faculty of Medicine, International Relations Department at Sirintorn Building, Tong Jan meeting room.

During this visit they exchanged their experience about how they cooperate with foreign organizations, how they provide services for foreign students and staff and they also talked about building a relationship between the international relations departments of the two universities. They also took this chance to observe the working conditions at Naresuan University’s International Relations department as well as other departments.

Professor Christopher Mow Visit for Educational Purpose

From June 28 to July 9, 2019, we invited Professor Christopher Mow from Stanford University to join our adult reconstructive orthopaedic surgery conference. While he was here, he gave lectures about Common Complications of Total Hip Replacement (THR) and Total Knee Replacement (TKR) (Including Examination Preparation); Bearing Surfaces in THR: Basic Science and Clinical Application; Femoral Revision in THR: What is the Current Status; and Medial Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA): Indication, Technique, and Result. He also engaged in many other discussions with our Faculty of Medicine in a wide ranging area of topics, including future collaborations such as growing Faculty and Student Exchange programs and conducting clinical trials at KKU for new technologies. Although he stayed only a few weeks, he contributed so much to the Faculty and the staff in fostering collaboration and cooperation. On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, we thank Professor Mow for his contribution and hope to have another chance to welcome him back to KKU.

The Outstanding Innovation Award: Medical innovation for superior standard of treatment for Breast Cancer patients

 


Associate Professor Supinda KOONMEE
, MD, Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, Thailand, brings a medical innovation called “Patum Raksa Technique” which investigates cancer cell of the breast with the highest accuracy.
This technique helps patients receive medical treatment which is appropriate for each patient.

Professor Supinda wins “The Outstanding Innovation Award” from Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) as her innovation “Patum Raksa” which develops the level of superior treatment for breast cancer patients.  The treatment is a combination form various professional, interdisciplinary Thai medical and health science personnel, including operating theater teams, in diagnosis teams, and treatment teams.  It is also connected with visits to patients at theirs houses.  The house visits are for following up patients with holistic care.  The relevant data is developed through the I.T. System named   “Thai Care Cloud”.  Thai Care Cloud is run by G-Cloud which is the cloud-based system of the Government Agency (DGA).  Thai Care Cloud is the Data-base of the health and medical electronics service.  This system was developed by Thai programmers, and the targets of this program are Thai people.  The users of “Thai Care Cloud” use this database free of charge.  Thai Care Cloud is run by the Data Management and Statistical Analysis Center or DAMASAC.
This innovation will bring the Better Solution for Breast Cancer – Specimen preservation and online monitoring Breast Cancer.

Professor Supinda had presented this innovation at the international conference in Japan on 60th Annual Spring Meeting of the Japanese Society of Clinical Cytology held on 7th – 9th June, 2019, Tokyo, Japan.
