Medical Professionals from Mahosot Hospital, Lao PDR Complete MRI Training at KKU

 

On September 26, 2025, the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, hosted a closing ceremony and certificate presentation for three medical professionals from Mahosot Hospital, Lao PDR, who successfully completed a four-week training program in the Department of Radiology from September 1 – 26, 2025. The participants included:

  • Dr. Phonevilay Chanthalangsy, Radiologist
  • Miss Haikham Vongsegdeuan, Radiologic Technologist
  • Miss Souphansa Inthala, Radiologic Technologist

The training focused on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) diagnostics, offering participants comprehensive knowledge and practical exposure under the guidance of academic staff from the Department of Radiology.

At the closing session, the participants presented their learning outcomes and shared experiences with faculty members before receiving certificates of completion in recognition of their achievements.

This successful program highlights the academic collaboration between Thailand and the Lao PDR, aiming to strengthen medical expertise and enhance healthcare services across the region.

International Relations Office Organizes “Let’s go elective, Let’s go global” to Inspire Global Opportunities

 

On September 24, 2025, the International Relations Office, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, organized the event “Let’s Go Elective, Let’s Go Global” at Hybrid Learning Center. The event was honored by Asst. Prof. Supawan Laohasiriwong, MD, Assistant for International Relations and Corporate Communication, who presided over the opening ceremony and delivered welcoming remarks.

 

 

The event introduced scholarship programs supported by the International Relations Office, including:

  • Global Student Platform Program, which supports undergraduate students to attend international conferences, present research, or participate in academic competitions abroad.

Let’s Go Elective, which provides opportunities for undergraduate students to join clinical elective programs at medical schools across Asia, Europe, Australia, and the Americas.

 

 

The highlight of the event featured student sharing sessions, where scholarship recipients shared their experiences:

Khon Kaen University to Train Lao Doctor in Specialist Medical Fellowship

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) will welcome a doctor from Laos for a two-year specialist fellowship, an initiative aimed at enhancing medical expertise and strengthening academic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

Dr. Visana Khathoumphom, a physician from Mahosot Hospital in Vientiane, Lao PDR, has been accepted for advanced training at the university. She will undertake a Fellowship Program in Otology and Neuro-Otology, a subspecialty focused on diseases of the ear and related neurological disorders, at the Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Otorhinolaryngology.

The intensive training program is scheduled to run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027.

Khon Kaen University Hosts Japanese and Chinese Nursing Students for Hospital Study Visit

 

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University hosted a delegation of nursing students from Japan and China on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, for a study visit focused on midwifery processes.

The visit saw students from two prominent Asian institutions, Kumamoto Health Science University in Japan and Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine in China, tour one of the university hospital’s key departments.

The Faculty of Medicine at Khon Kaen University (KKU) hosted a delegation of medical technology students from two leading Japanese universities, marking a continued effort to enhance international academic collaboration.

On 15 September 2025, students from Fujita Health University and Kumamoto Health Science University were welcomed for a study visit designed to promote scholarly exchange. The initiative supports the faculty’s strategic goals for internationalization by providing students with exposure to global healthcare practices.

A major teaching hospital in Northeast Thailand has welcomed an international delegation of nursing faculty and students from Japan and Norway for a study visit focused on exchanging knowledge on nursing technology and innovation.

The visit took place on Thursday, 4 September 2025, at Srinagarind Hospital, part of Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine.

The multinational delegation was comprised of faculty and students from two leading institutions:

From the University of Shizuoka, Japan, the group included faculty members Professor Mayumi Negishi and Dr. Miho Kondo, accompanied by students Mr. Aoi Hagiwara, Mr. Keita Sato, Ms. Nodoka Ikuma, and Ms. Yuika Yamada.

From Molde University College, Norway, the student representatives were Ms. Anna Romuld Holsvik, Ms. Idun Frilund, Ms. Jessica Ailin Akselvoll, and Ms. Mira Nuncic.

The group was given observational access to the hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a specialized ward for critically ill children with complex medical needs. This allowed the visitors to see clinical practices and advanced patient care techniques.

Japanese nursing students study semi-critical care at Srinagarind Hospital

 

Two nursing students from Japan have visited Srinagarind Hospital in Northeast Thailand to study its specialized system for patient care within a semi-critical unit.

On Friday, 12 September 2025, Ms. Yuri Makimoto and Ms. Kokomi Yamaguchi from Kumamoto Health Science University closely observed the clinical work of the hospital’s nursing team.

The primary objective of the study visit was to understand the patient care system within the Internal Medicine Semi-Critical Care Unit. This unit plays a vital role in caring for internal medicine patients who are past the critical phase but still have complex conditions that require continuous monitoring before they can be transferred to a general ward.

The experience provided the students with important knowledge on caring for this specific group of “step-down” patients, which they can apply to their future nursing careers.

Japanese physiotherapy students visit leading Thai medical hub

 

Two Japanese physical therapy students have completed a two-day study visit at medical centre to observe advanced patient care and rehabilitation techniques.

Ms. Rika Tanaka, a third-year student, and Ms. Miku Watanabe, a first-year student from Kumamoto Health Science University in Japan, visited Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine on 10-11 September.

 

 

The visit began at Srinagarind Hospital, the university’s main teaching hospital and a major regional healthcare provider. The students spent their first day observing clinical practices within the Neurological Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy units. According to the university, the programme was designed to provide insights into rehabilitation processes for patients with diverse and complex conditions.

On their second day, the students toured the Queen Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast, a specialist facility for cardiovascular diseases. The university stated that this part of the visit aimed to broaden their perspective beyond physiotherapy, offering a look into the comprehensive care and technology used for cardiac and vascular patients.
