Khon Kaen, Thailand – November 18, 2025 – Senior executives from Khon Kaen University (KKU), led by Mr. Surapol Phetvora, Vice President of KKU Council, and Associate Professor Dr. Chanchai Pantongviriyakul, President of Khon Kaen University accompanied by the leadership team of the Faculty of Medicine, visited REHAB Basel, a premier neurorehabilitation institute in Switzerland renowned for treating patients with severe brain and spinal cord injuries. The institute is recognized across Switzerland and Europe for its comprehensive rehabilitation standards, advanced technology, innovative approaches, and holistic care programs, enabling patients to restore both physical and mental health to their fullest potential.

Driving Global Collaboration in Rehabilitation Medicine
The visit focused on strategic discussions for academic and research collaboration in rehabilitation medicine, exchanging knowledge on comprehensive patient care systems, and exploring the adaptation of REHAB Basel’s models and technologies to advance KKU’s Center of Excellence in rehabilitation medicine. These initiatives aim to align with international standards and elevate patient care across the region.
During the visit, the KKU leadership held in-depth discussions with Prof. Dr. med. Christian Kätterer, Specialist in Neurology, Consultant Physician in Neurorehabilitation, REHAB Basel at REHAB Basel, and Mrs. Katrin Burow, the institute’s communications officer. Prof. Dr. Kätterer presented REHAB Basel’s management and care approach while guiding the KKU delegation through patient-centered care services designed to rehabilitate both physical and mental capabilities.

The KKU visit enabled an in-depth exchange of knowledge and discussion of REHAB Basel’s comprehensive rehabilitation system, recognized as a leading standard in Europe. The discussion covers diagnosis, specialized treatment for brain and spinal cord patients, physical and mental rehabilitation, long-term follow-up, and holistic health programs. This knowledge transfer supports KKU’s strategy to advance its rehabilitation medicine center to international standards and drive the development of a Medical Hub in Northeast Thailand as a regional center for advanced medical care and rehabilitation innovation.
