KKU-MD welcomes exchange students from France, Austria, and Poland

 

KKU-MD recently welcomed four exchange students from France, Austria, and Poland:

  1. Miss Safa Derouiche, 4th year medical student, Université Paris Cité, France, to our Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery between July 11 – 17, 2023 and to our Department of Anesthesiology between July 31 and August 17, 2023,
  2. Miss Claire Janine Dominique Laurence, 4th year medical student, Université Paris-Saclay, France, to our Department of Surgery between June 11 and August 3, 2023,
  3. Miss Nicole Kobler, 5th year medical student, Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, Austria, to our Department of Emergency Medicine between July 11 and August 3, 2023, and
  4. Mr. Grzegorz Dorabialski, 1st year medical student, Medical University of Bialystok, Poland, to our Department of Pathology between July 11 and August 3, 2023.

At their Orientation Day, they were introduced to our faculty and programs via a campus tour and supervisor meetings organized by KKU-MD international relations officers.

KKU-MD delegates join international congress in Boston, USA

 

Assistant Professor Artit Boonrod, MD, Department of Orthopedics, and Dr. Sarat Tiangwan, MD, recently presented their research at the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) Congress 2023, held in Boston, USA between June 18 and 21.  The ISAKOS Congress is the premier international meeting for sharing the latest advancements in arthroscopy, knee surgery and sports medicine. It also covered a variety of new and cutting edge surgical techniques and approaches to clinical management, and current controversies in orthopaedic practice.

Our KKU-MD delegates also visited the medical center for knee surgery due to sports injury and shoulder arthroplasty at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. This visit was supervised and facilitated by Dr. Michael Ackland, Dr. Glen Ross, and Dr. Paul Weitzel.

KKU-MD welcomes nurse from Lao PDR for three-month ophthalmology training program

 

KKU-MD Nursing Division recently welcomed Ms. Amphone Khamsivolavong, a nurse from The National Ophthalmology Center (NOC), Lao PDR, for a three-month training program in Operating Room 1, Srinagarind Hospital between July 1 and September 30, 2023. The training is organized under the Elective Staff Exchange Program to strengthen cooperation between KKU and foreign academic institutions.

KKU-MD welcomes visiting professor from Lincoln University, New Zealand

 

On July 10, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Apichat Jiravuttipong, MD, Dean of KKU Faculty of Medicine together with Assoc. Prof. Nuttaset Manimmanakorn, Head, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Apiwan Manimmanakorn, lecturer, Department of Physiology, Prof. John F Smith, English Specialist, welcomed Professor Michael John Hamlin, PhD, Department of Tourism, Sport and Society, Lincoln University, New Zealand, to our faculty.

Professor Hamlin is a Professor of Exercise and Sport Science and Sport Scholarship Academic Advisor. He participated in the MD-KKU overseas visiting professor in our Department of Rehabilitation Medicine between July 7 and 24, 2023.

The visit’s objectives were to provide opportunities for medical staff, residents, health science personnel, and students to gain more knowledge of rehabilitation medicine, to develop collaborative research projects, and to support manuscript writing for international journal publication.

KKU-MD recently welcomed 12 third year residents from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Health Sciences, Lao PDR:

KKU-MD welcomes professor and nursing students from University of Newcastle, Australia

 

KKU-MD recently welcomed Professor Dr. Margaret Harris School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Newcastle, Australia, together with seven nursing students: Miss Katie Hole, Miss Lili Philipott, Miss Elena Norley, Miss Cassidy Wildman, Miss Jillian Brow, Miss Brianna Jenkins, and Miss Shelly Kleefsman. They participated in an exchange program at the Faculty of Nursing, KKU between June 25 and July 8, 2023.

On June 29, 2023, Assistant Professor Dr. Samoraphop Banharak, Associate Dean for Research, Innovation and International Affairs, Faculty of Nursing, KKU, led them on a visit to Samliam Primary Care Unit of Srinagarind Hospital. They saw this medical service system that integrates medical, nursing, psychological, and social sciences knowledge for treatment, rehabilitation, health promotion and disease prevention in this urban setting.

On July 3, 2023, they met the Director of Nursing Division of Srinagarind Hospital and were introduced to the hospital nursing service system and also visited the SEMI Medical Intensive Care Unit 4B.

KKU-MD welcomes exchange students from different parts of the world

 

On July 3, 2023, KKU-MD welcomed a diverse group of medical exchange students from Austria, France, Belgium, Indonesia, Slovenia, Canada, Hungary, Poland, Spain, and UK.

On their Orientation Day, they were introduced to our faculty and programs via supervisor meetings as well as campus and city tours to famous attractions, such as Wat Nong Waeng to see a 360-degree panoramic view of Khon Kaen city from the peak, and to visit the elegant architecture of Wat Thung Setthi.

“I’m really excited to meet other people and to go around in Thailand and I’m excited to know more about my internship to discover new things and cultures also,” said Magalie, a Canadian exchange student.

“I’m kind of excited because I’ve been learning Thai on my own and I want to develop my Thai skills and get to know how to work in KKU to upgrade my research skills,” said Cabañas, a Spanish exchange student.

KKU signs MOU with K-MEDI Hub, Korea for research and development cooperation

 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between K-MEDI Hub, Republic of Korea and KKU-MD took place on July 2, 2023 at the Korea International Advanced Medical Equipment & Medicine Expo 2023 (KOAMEX 2023) to initiate academic staff exchanges and research and development cooperation.

Between June 30 and July 2, 2023, a KKU delegation participated in KOAMEX 2023, an annual medical innovation exhibition hosted by K-MEDI hub, a center under Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare located in Medi-valley, Daegu, Korea.  K-MEDI hub supports drug development, preclinical study, drug manufacturing, and medical devices.

Assoc. Prof. Apichat Jiravuttipong, MD, KKU-MD Dean together with Director of Academic Clinical Research Office (ACRO) visited K-MEDI Hub on April 2023 to discuss researcher and human resource development and the proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both parties.

The earlier visit culminated in the MOU Signing Ceremony on July 2, 2023 signed by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, MD, KKU President and Dr. Yang Jin Young K-MEDI Hub President together with Prof. Dr. Monchai Duangjinda, KKU Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies and K-MEDI Hub delegates as witnesses.

KKU-MD welcomes visiting professor from Humanitas University, Italy

 

On June 26, 2023, Associate Professor Wimorat Sriraj, MD, Associate Dean for Research and International Relations Affairs and Prof. John F Smith, English Specialist welcomed Professor Carlo Selmi from Humanitas University, Milan, Italy, to our faculty.

Professor Selmi participated in the MD–KKU overseas visiting professor program in our Department of Biochemistry between June 21 and 30, 2023. The visit’s objectives were:

  • To provide a seminar to the Department and give special lectures to postgraduate research students and medical students
  • To develop collaborative research works related to the biochemistry
  • To develop collaborative student exchanges between KKU-MD and Humanitas University

On this occasion, faculty members in the Department of Biochemistry led by Associate Professor Kulthida Vaeteewoottacharn, MD, head of the Department, together with Assistant Professor Ubon Cha-on, Dr. Worachat Lert-itthiporn, MD, and Dr. Kanokwan Nahok also attended the meeting. They discussed the MOU process for future development of collaborative-research and clinical practice skills development projects between the two institutions.

KKU-MD professor receives the Princess Health Award 2023

 

Professor Pisake Lumbiganon, MD, KKU-MD Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, recently received an “Academic Achievement” award from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The award presentation ceremony was held on June 21, 2023 at the 16th National Health Promotion and Environmental Health Conference 2023.

The Ministry of Public Health selected candidates for the Princess Health Awards 2023 to honor individuals and organizations for their innovative achievements in health promotion and environmental health.
